If you're reading this now, you have or soon will have an audio book you want to sell. For that purpose, I won't be delving into any aspect of creating an audio book or getting started in the audio book process. This book is geared toward authors who have already started the journey into this lucrative market.

So your book is either in the process of being narrated and soon will be available for sale or has already been sent out into the world. Either way, you need to know what to do to make sure it doesn't sink like a lead balloon.

Perhaps you're used to marketing ebooks so you think you're good to go. You'll just do the same things. Think about that for a moment. What have you done to spread the word about your book?

You've tweeted and have posted information about it all over the internet. You've blogged, gotten interviews and reviews, and have even created a book video. Those are all great ideas, but flooding the internet with even more information about the same book using the same book description isn't likely to gather more attention.

Your paperback or ebook might be a bestseller, an average seller, or have tanked in sales. No matter which, selling an audio book takes a little more...okay, a lot more effort. This type of promoting forces you to think outside the box, to use a clich├ęd phrase. Just sending a tweet saying your audio book is out isn't enough. After all, your followers have already seen that line, probably more than once. You have to do something more to catch their attention.

Marketing and promoting is all about excitement. You have to cause it. Why should people care that you now have a book out in audio? How can you make them care? And if they've already bought the book in digital or paperback, why would they want to hear it? What if they haven't read your book at all? How can you give them the urge to make a substantially higher purchase?

Have you read anything about audio listeners? Do you know their demographics? You have to know where your listeners are in order to properly approach them. So before you go any further, stop reading this book and read this study. It provides detailed information about audio listeners provided by Audio Publishers Association and will tell you more about potential audio book listeners.

Now that you've read the study, let me add that these tips and tricks I'm sharing here have either been tested on my own audio books or are in the planning stages. I'm only including ways I would use to promote my books as I wouldn't offer anything to you that I wouldn't do myself.

I can't guarantee you're going to have massive sales if you implement every portion of this book, but the ideas definitely won't harm your sales. Having a plan and working the plan is the best catalyst for book sales no matter the venue.
