My weekly top 10 (12): (july 06 – 12, 2008)
-
1. XxEmoHeartxX – raining sadness
2. xStephStephx09 – vampires aren’t real
3. B LEAF – guilty love
4. ANGELASTEELE – non compos mentis
5. LPAPRINCESS – come back to me please girl, im sorry
6. LILGPOET – once a day
7. WHATSIT2YOU – hope for life
8. SUBBU – the living god…
9. SARAH HIGGINS – the good beside the bad

10. ERIN – don’t worry about me i’ll get through it

-

XxEmoHeartxX – No one will ever know the personal pain and emotional upheaval a rape victim undergoes. But a sympathetic level exists when one comes across a rape victim. Tori’s poem “raining sadness” is a devastating account of a girl, who has been raped. She is numb with grief and personal shame. The rapist might’ve had his day but this girl has had her say. And that’s what matters. Total grief.
-
xStephStephx09 – Vampires exist but most of us take them as fictional stuff, of which Twilight is made of. But are they a figment of our imagination or are they lurking out there in the dark, waiting for a victim. We get our answer in Steph’s poem “vampires aren’t real”. A vampire is in an irate mood when his existence is questioned. He says, I am for real. And if you don’t believe me, meet me in the dark and I’ll… Blood-sucking!
-
B LEAF – I’ve always felt, writing a sonnet needs creativity and talent and an unique frame of mind. And very few achieve the meter (ABBA, ABBA, CDE, CDE or other variations). B Leaf does it in style. His sonnet “guilty love” is a moving statement on a son’s incestuous love for his mother. He loves her to the point of self-destruction. For this love has no future. Only guilt, shame and eventual death remain. Temple of Doom!
-
ANGELASTEELE – She is the Woman of Steel(e) and now Latin too. And she has enamored me with her new writings in no small measure. We come across mentally ill but don’t realize their plight or even their mental pain. Angela in her poem “non compos mentis” makes an emotional statement on these over-the-edge special people. They may not have a sound mindbut theyappeal to ours. Mind-boggling!
-
LPAPRINCESS – Remember, we fight with our best friends (whom else can we fight with as it is another form of showing love.) In the heat of the moment, we fight and the very next we regret it. And then we want to get back with the friend on the same old terms. Lpa’s poem, “come back to me please girl, im sorry” is about this. She regrets the fight (we all do!) and wants her friend back. And she says sorry too. How sweet!
-
LILGPOET – What do you do or what can you do once a day. Hmm. Let me think, I wake up, shower, breakfast, office, back home, surfing, eat, sleep. And here lilgpoet offers a sane and sound advice in her poem, “once a day”. She says don’t emulate others and seem fake. Do your own thing. Go out and play (or Jack’s a dull boy!) And most important, don’t forget to read her poem once a day. Only once! Thank God!
-
WHATSIT2YOU – As one grows older, enthusiasm and energy recedes and one gives up hope. All hopes (if at all) are pinned on one’s children, who don’t even pay heed to their aged parents. Whatsit2you brings out this aspect hopelessly in her humorous piece “hope for life” sensitively. The old woman watches the lone planted flower from her room’s window. It has started to wither. Decaying life. And her hope against hope.
-
SUBBU – While B leaf’s sonnet is about incestuous love for one’s mother, Subbu’s “the living god…” is about revering one’s mother. For he considers his mother his God. (Whoa!) He gives her credit for his very existence, which is doubtless. And he doesn’t find enough words to eulogize her. He considers her his world. He cannot pay back her debt for her love encompasses him totally. Mamma Mia!
-
SARAH HIGGINS – Hmm. So, Sarah is on the line. Although lots of upheavals are going on in the US, she can still find good there thus proving she is an eternal optimist and a patriot too. In her poem “the good beside the bad”, she finds the country filled with joy. New research in curing cancer is being undertaken. After reading this poem, I considered US citizenship for it feels like God’s own country. Heaven on earth.
-
ERIN– You repose your faith in someone and love him intensely too. And what happens! He ditches you. You are crest fallen. Your world crumbles. Only a determined few can pick up their life and move on. Erin in her poem “don’t worry about me i’ll get through it” is jilted in love but she knows she’ll get over it but he won’t. Some optimism this. She still loves him but… Lovely past + painful present = hopeful future. BRAVO!
-
(A closely contested US election. We wait with bated breath. And let’s not wait to laugh for its needed in these tense times.)
-
Critics say that Presidential candidate Barack Obama tries to "be all things to all people" and that he makes too many "pie-in-the-sky" promises. At a recent political rally, Obama tried to overcome these criticisms by emphasizing his commitment to principles. Afterwards, audience members lined up at a microphone to ask Obama questions.
The first person at the microphone said, "I oppose the war in Iraq. If you are elected, what will you do about that?"
"I will end the war in Iraq within two weeks of taking office," answered Obama. "All our troops will come home, and I will simultaneously make sure the Iraqi government is functioning and secure."
The second person in line said, "I'm an illegal alien. What will you do for people like me?"
"If I am elected," answered Obama, "every illegal alien will receive U.S. citizenship, free health coverage, and a scholarship to the university of your choice."
The third person in line said, "I'm a conservative. If elected, what will you do for me?"
"I'll send that first guy to Iraq, and the second guy back to Mexico."

until next week...CHEERS!... and lots of luv and kisses...and...and...(I said SHUT UP!!!)

hi! mike. v all need publicity. or else good writing is consigned to history without ever been seen, leave alone read. and a good word leaves a good feeling in heart.

without being modest (thats not my virtue) COULD U WRITE SOMETHING ABOUT ME. ha! haa!! haaa!!! i beg of u, misters.

lol. ;-)

Hello Babs. This is a reply to the above anonymous comment. Great list, as always.

It Takes Courage

It takes courage
To refrain from gossip When others delight in it,
To stand up for the absent person Who is being abused.

It takes courage
To live honestly Within your means,
And not dishonestly On the means of others.

It takes courage To be a REAL man or a TRUE woman,
To hold fast to your ideals When it causes you
To be looked upon As strange and peculiar.

It takes courage
To be talked about, And remain silent,
When a word would justify you In the eyes of others,
But which you dare not speak Because it would injure another.

It takes courage
To refuse to do something That is wrong
Although everyone else May be doing it
With attitudes as carefree As a summer song.

It takes courage
To live according To your own convictions,
To deny yourself What you cannot afford.
To love your neighbor As yourself!

hi! daisy. thanx for approving top 10.

when i joined booksie, i wanted to post a romantic novel but IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY. slowly time was eaten up by other things and novel was left at the side although i've not forgotten it.

here, till now, i've read four novels and a few chapters each. so it'd seem like a travesty of truth if i promise i'll read and then i read only a few and later i don't read the remaining for lack of time and also continuity.

i'm aware of and get novel requests but this is the only hitch. and i don't like myself for this or the situation too. composing, arranging and writing the top 10 each week takes me about 4 hours. (i know, it doesn't seem like that for when finally i read it, its a ready-to-eat pizza with a pop and some chips thrown in without appreciating the effort). this is not like my spontaneous regular writings.

some of my booksie friends r upset with me for not reading their novels but others do appreciate my view too. i hope u too. but i'll keep it in mind and if there r shorter pieces, i'll go for them.

i'm sure u'll find appreciative readership for ur novels as everyone digs interesting stuff. and i wish u all the very best. lol. ;-)
