Birthday Greetings

Essay By: Juggernaut
Non-fiction

“Precisely that’s the problem; we were programmed to see everything in terms of vertical numbering whether it is age, amount of wealth or number of homes, cars, and diamonds etc., owned,” “there must be some other way referring to ones achievement or ones time spent since birth.”

Birthday Greetings

Subba Rao

"Happy birth day, Juggernaut."

Juggernaut did not respond and ignored Dan's greetings.

"Happy birth day, is it not today your birth day?" Dan repeated himself.

"Not in my mind, I never celebrated my birthday in adult life," replied Juggernaut in pensive mood.

"What you mean? is today your birth day or not?" demanded Dan.

"According to my birth records, yes today is my birth day but I do not recognize vertical counting of years, the concept is totally absurd."

"You mean you don't want people to know how old are you, is that it?"

"Not at all; people can figure it out how young or old I am by looking at me, that's not the point."

"Then what is your point?"

"Neither I or anybody for that matter even it is an animal or a tree should be referred with a number of years in age, say when I hear a 3 years old colt won a derby or 2 years old dog or cat was missing or 85 years old tree was fell by lightening, why refer to the age?" Juggernaut appears to be in agony.

"Without mentioning the age in years, how one can relate to an event with respect to a person, animal or a tree?"

"Precisely that's the problem; we were programmed to see everything in terms of vertical numbering whether it is age, amount of wealth or number of homes, cars, and diamonds etc., owned," "there must be some other way referring to ones achievement or ones time spent since birth."

"I cannot perceive any other measurement than vertical numbering either up or down unless you come out with a novel idea of expression," "If somebody were to ask your age, how you would respond? Dan appeared to give up on Juggernaut.

"I would reply; I really don't know but I am living," Juggernaut appeared satisfied with his answer.

"With that kind of answer you may be the loneliest man on the earth."

"Not at all, on the contrary I am an ageless person living and so as rest of the world population whether human, animal or plant kingdom," "I want to see in the news Mr. Buffett is a successful business man without mentioning how much his worth in number of billions or actor without mentioning in how many movies he or she acted thus far, or a scientist known for publishing so many research papers, no numbering, none, period." Juggernaut was emphatic.

"Well, it is hard follow your concept, say the least."

"Years ago, a VP just came on board asked me why I was working with the same company for over 15 years; he did not know what I accomplished for the company in those years." "Vertical scale brings out idiot thinking from everybody particularly lazy and stupid minds to make a quick assessment, that is my serious gripe on vertical scale," Juggernaut looked happy for articulating his position on vertical scale assessment.

"Well, since then how many years passed that VP was still with the company now?"

"Since I cannot mention the time in numerical terms, let's say for donkey years now."

"I believe I am beginning to understand what you were saying now," Dan slid into his chair as if he was overtaken by his thoughts.
