With the Olympics out of the way, it was time to focus on the senior team. The first match would be a World Cup Qualifier against the world famous Cape Verde team. Followed shortly with a friendly with South Africa.

With all due respect, Cape Verde are hardly world-class, with only three recognised players to call upon. As such, I decided to use the match to hand debuts to several players. No less than eight in fact.

We were heavily favoured, and so it proved when Meyong, one of the several players making his full international debut, scored on 15 minutes.

Unfortunately, the injury jinx struck again, with fellow debutant Vincent Pericard and Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun picking up knocks, Timothee Atouba and Geremi replacing them at half time.

We applied more pressure in the second half, in order to get the second goal to put the game to bed, but despite introducing Samuel Eto'o, it was not to be, as it remained 1-0 to the end.

In a tale all too familiar, we had yet another injury. This time defender Bondoa Adiaba the unlucky fella.

Final score, Cape Verde 0 Cameroon 1

The win meant that we had qualified for the next round of World Cup qualifying. Not bad. I only needed one match...alt
