It wasn't your body,
or the way I could have crushed it with one squeeze
It wasn't the metal,
holding you together like a machine
It wasn't your voice,
barely above a whisper
It wasn't the scars,
purple and blue and swollen and everywhere
It wasn't the way you walked,
hobbling like you could fall and smash any second
It was your laugh,
because why are you laughing?
I certainly wasn't
