Their voices carry to where I sit
Young and happy, not a hint of sadness
They don't fit with the darkness
I feel inside my very soul
Nobody here really knows how it is
To lose everything and everyone you've ever known
How would they?
They say friendship spans any distance
But those who say that do not stop to think
About the pain that very distance causes
Because when you leave your life behind,
You may as well be dead.
And those cheerful voices
Have yet to feel this pain
Though they may not realise it now,
But they have everything they need
Right there by their sides.
