TRUTH AND LIES

THE TONGUE CAN BE SMOOTH

DOES IT REALLY FORETELL THE TRUTH?
TIS ALL THESE LIES
ONE SHALL COME TO DISPISE
WHEN A LIE IS TOLD
IT SEEMS TO MULTIPLY TEN FOLD
WHAT BECOMES OF THOSE TEN?
PERHAPS THE TRUTH HARDER TO DEFEND
IF ONLY THE TRUTH COULD HAVE BEEN TOLD IN THE BEGINNING
THE LONG LIST OF LIES WOULD BE THINNING
YET IT SEEMS TIS MORE AND MORE LIES THAT WE ARE SEEING
FURTHER AND FURTHER THE TRUTH IS FLEEING
HOW SHOULD ONE SOLVE THE MYSTERY OF THE LIE
GUILTY AS CHARGED THE LORD OF FLIES
BUSY AS WORK HE TRIES TO PENETRATE THE MIND
MAKING THE TRUTH HARDER TO FIND
HOW DO WE OVERCOME THIS MALICIOUS TYRANT
PERHAPS TO THE LIE WE BECOME DEFIANT
WHAT IS A CHARACTER OF TRUTH
SURELY THERE IS ALWAYS PROOF
IF ONE IS UNABLE TO TELL THE TRUTH; IT IS BETTER TO BE FOUND SILENT
THEN TO BECOME THE LORD OF FLIES CLIENT
IN BAD SITUATIONS I FIND PENALTIES LESS HARSH IF WE ARE HONEST
THEN LATER TO FIND THE CRIME OF PERJURY UPON US
FOR AND UPON THE TRUTH I SHALL STAND
HOPEFULLY TRUTH SPREADS ACROSS THE LAND
