I got married in 1970. I liked going deer hunting with my family. Most of the men in my family hunted whitetail deer in rural western New York. We took our hunting seriously and were responsible sportsmen. We also had a very good time socially. From the 3am breakfast in a small diner on the way to our hunting area. To Lunch at the car, sharing the morning hunting stories. The ride home after dark, five of us all tired and dirty crammed in one car, laughing and having a great time was precious to me. My new wife wanting me to come home alive and also be comfortable, crocheted a salmon colored almost florescent orange scarf. The Novembers in western New York could be brutally cold and snowy. You could see this scarf from 200 yards in a snow storm. It was awesome and being that my wife made it with love in mind, I fancied wearing it all the time.
Fast forward to 2009.
I was working part time as a journeyman meat cutter in a local supermarket. I had been retired for a few years and wanted to work part time. In December I had a very bad sore throat and knowing the cold would rip at it, I took my scarf to work with me. Well to most men the scarf looks PINK, it is not and I can't explain it but if you search the internet for "salmon not pink" you will find so many hits that you will realize it was not only the guys I worked with that have this problem. Also, there is a stigma or conception among a lot of men that if a man wears pink he MUST be Gay (homosexual). Hence I took quite a ribbing from the "real man" butchers I worked with.
I tried in vain to convince them that pink was (white and red) and salmon is (white and orange) and orange is (red and yellow), hence there is NO yellow in pink! They didn't get it and continued to harass me albeit in fun and not cruelty.
I decided I would take a picture of me wearing the scarf, and then transfer the scarf to my Conan picture and bring it in to show them that even a MAN like Conan wears a scarf like mine. I had them all in stitches when I showed them the picture. They were even more in stitches when I showed them my picture with the scarf on. I am a Dungeons and Dragons enthusiast and I have a high quality replica for the sword from Lord of the Rings hanging in my living room. I used it in my picture and tried to look mean. Gideon Elrod has been after me to post this story, even though she knows nothing about it except that it involves my Conan picture from my bio and a scarf. Here it is, now GET OFF MY BACK! I am just funning with her, I have the utmost respect for her and her passions that she spreads and encourages here on Booksie.
Oh yeah! The pictures, I almost forgot!
