The day Sarah Lovejoy was born was the day everything would change. She would leave loved ones with broken hearts, without even getting the chance to say good-bye.
July tenth 1995 a blonde haired blue eyed daughter was born Sarah Lovejoy was born exactly five minutes before her fraternal brown haired, brown eyed twin sister, Hannah Lovejoy was born. It was the day my mom’s (Suzanne Lovejoy) purse was stolen by a man who claimed that he was trying to find his wife. It was also the day my dad (Fredrick Lovejoy) was charged fifty-two dollars for driving his brown and white station wagon too slow.
Eight months later Sarah was beginning to get weak, and was found to have a rare disease known as mitochondria disorder. Only one out of every one million children get this disease. Unfortunately there was no cure for the disease Sarah was carrying. The doctors tried hard to keep Sarah strong so she could live happily ever after. But as they tried harder Sarah got weaker and weaker until parts of her brain started to shut down.
Months, than years passed by when I was a child. I tried hard to play with Sarah and keep in touch giving her toys to play with, but I was too young too understand what had happened to her and felt many times that she was mad at me. Probably most children would think the same when they played with someone who couldn’t talk, couldn’t move, lied down on the couch all day, and had seizures most of the time.
Friday, June ninth year 2000, a month before our fifth birthday we got a call from the Branford Hospice, announcing Sarah’s death. That day after my YMCA pre-school graduation we all went to see Sarah at the Fairfield Funeral Inc. I gazed at her, for a long time she looked so peaceful, with her eyes closed, her short silky hair lying on her shoulder and her mouth tightly shut as if she were a Greek goddess. I didn’t know what would happen next, but she was gone in a blink of eye, and without even getting the chance to say good-bye.
