My Two Lives

Short Story by NovelistJess

A teenager gets transported back to the 1600s in Salem,...

Well, I'll be turning 15 on Nessie's Birthday, which, for those non-Twilight fans, is September 10. I like to think of myself as a fall birthday, even though it's technically still in the summer. I hate the heat, which is rather ironic considering I live in Florida. I'm proud of my Virgo status- and I have to say, if you've ever read a Virgo horoscope, you basically know everything about me. I'm stubborn, reliable, confident, and a huge nerd. I love to learn and discover new things. (Which goes along with the nerd aspect.)

I've loved reading ever since I was really young, when my mom read to me. The first book I remember her reading to me was something about a family of seven girls living in 19th century England, and they had to share and the mom hid coins underneath the household objects to get them to clean. I don't remember the title, but I'm incredibly glad that my mom got me started on reading at that early of an age. The first "big kid" book she bought me was The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, which I read in first grade. I was considered an outcast in my class, basically, and my only friend was Mrs. Hill, the teaching assistant. (Mrs. Hill, if you're reading this, you still owe me a game of Othello.) Second grade I gained one friend, but nearly lost her when she started struggling in math and I made her flash cards. Third grade was my year. I finally made a life-long friend, it seemed, and I discovered writing. I think it was with the help of my teacher. She was amazing, and I found an outlet to pour myself into while I waited for the rest of my classmates to catch up intellectually.

Then I moved, so all of that was lost. I lost contact with my friend, and I was completely devastated. My parents bought me a diary, and I wrote daily. Those pages are long lost, I tore them out of that book stupidly one day, but I still remember the joy that writing gave to me. Although it seemed terrible at the time, that move was really good for me. It opened my eyes to another part of the world. It gave me a chance to start over in a place where I wasn't considered someone who only cared about books and school. Because it was a small, private school, there were only 34 students. That was actually a huge number for a class- normally there are only around 20. But it gave me a chance to open up, which I hadn't been able to before, and gain friends. Of course, there were a lot of bumps in the road (knowing me, I'm glad it wasn't worse), but I survived to where I am now, getting ready to go into high school.

My eighth grade year, this year, was the year where I really evolved from nerdy-school-girl-who-wears-her-pants-way-too-high-and-hair-in-pigtails to open-ready-for-anything-girl-who-can-express-herself-and-figured-out-a-good-style-of-hair. (Yes, I still wore pigtails even in seventh grade. Every day. My point.) My class has all grown up, and this year really tested our bonds that we created together. I will never forget it.

But anyways, I probably should've added at the begginning that I love to write and tend to go overboard, but I guess that's kinda obvious. Haha, now you know my whole life-story, almost. Well, you're missing the fact that I love green, blue, purple, silver, and black, I'd be sorted into Ravenclaw, I'm afraid of dogs, snakes, going over bridges, and sharks, I'm nauseus of blood, I'm a brunnette, and I like to have fun. I'm looking forward to my new begginning in high school, as an engineering student. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention- I want to be a mission control specialist/author when I grow up. I used to want to be an astronaut, but I changed that when I realized it was way too dangerous and I'd rather be behind the scenes. I'm interested in a lot of things, including writing, drawing, reading, archery, basketball, volleyball, astronomy, mythology, filming, photography, web design, and editiing.
