Now I have given you the basics on how to role play online. There are many different places to take yourself. There are role playing chat rooms in most every kind of online service that has chat rooms. These are hard to keep up in though and with so many people in them at once it can get very confusing. I find it best to search profiles and find someone whose character sounds interesting and compatible to your chosen character and favorite settings and instant message them if you can.

 

Instant message role playing allows you a one on one player base that allows for easier expansion and more control for what happens to both players. You have no one else to discuss changes with except the other player and so it’s easier to decide when to stop and start without worrying the story will continue for hours after you are gone. You don’t miss any of the details and can have fun while keeping up easily with it.

 

There are also message board role plays that can take longer than a chat room and allow more players, but they can also continue on without you being there. It allows for more control than a chat while giving less control than an instant message r/p.

 

Then there is r/p that gives total freedom to the player but it can take A LOT longer to get anywhere and that is role play through e-mails.

 

All of these can be fun ways to play, it is up to you HOW you want to play. Pick something you are comfortable with and don’t let anyone else take you out of your comfort zone. This is a game and it’s meant to help you relax and have fun. Enjoy yourself and take your time getting used to everything.

 

Everyone gets writers block, so don’t feel you are inadequate if you run out of ideas, just take a breather and come back to it when you overcome that block. If the other player is really worth playing with they will wait for you!
