I enjoy the way you wrote this essay. It is captivating but at the same time you give us an importnat message against consumerism and the cluttering of our houses.
I'll be sure to use the "ine for nine" these days!

Boy, can I identify with all of that. I am such a "pack rat." Yes, the old birthday and holiday cards, rock from different places, magazine and/or newspapers that I might read (when I have the time.) I like that concept of 9 for 9. I think I might do that. Thanks for sharing, hope all is well, Ted

Sorry... I don't know where that "text" message came from that is posted above the title. Please ignore it.
Thanks...

hahahaahahahah :D
Jerry, it is not me, but my folks house.
Oh God when I go home it is UNbeleiable.
they are totally blind to it all. they live in denial.
junk, junk everywhere. ya, its horrible.
well one day all of us kids are going to have to bring the trucks and load up seriously.
But this idea of yours sounds so mcuh better.
I wonder if I should present it to them.
ya, I think I should.
haha, thanks Jerr.

Actually, we go through our stuff 3-4 times a year and donate good stuff to Goodwill and Salvation Army. The kids are always outgrowing clothes and toys.... And there's always other 'stuff' that can be boxed up.
This was a fun article..... I need to show it to my dad. He's the pack rat of the family. He has three of everything!! (We never know what gifts to give him, lol)

Hi Jerry, long time....I really like this one. A good idea I will begin trying. I'm not a pack rat though. I can't stand clutter, so this will help me and my daughter very much. Thank you.

not only did i like it...I loved it...what a brilliant concept...lovely indeed.
Clutter is not only distracting but slows down thoughts also...
such a thoughtful approach...as usual a sincere article for all of us...

Ah, Jerry, you have hit the nail on the head for me at least. I am the creator of clutter in my house - not because I like hoarding, but because I am too lazy to put things in their own places. My poor husband gets driven to distraction by that. Every time he picks up an article lying about somewhere and requests me to replace it, my standard response is, "but darling, it IS it's place"! Poor, poor guy.... Your article has suddenly made me wish to be clutter free. He is going to thank you for that!

That sure is me too. I hate to part with anything, especially if they bring back memories. I guess it stems from when I was a child. We weren't poor, but things I wanted never came easy. It was, can I have a nickel and Mom would say go cash in the bottles. Hey maybe that was just her way of getting rid of stuff the easy was and saving money at the same time. So I value everything I have and I hate to get rid of anything. Thanks Jerry, for writing a story that we all relate to. Gale

HAhahahaha ya, I do have a few things :D
I have kept a few peices of clothing that may never fit correctly again and even if they did I may never have a palce to wear them to, but I keep them just cause of the memory attached lol.
ya, I've got old stuff in a box from when I was a teenager :D and old stuff in my desk drawer.
ya, I won't get rid of everything :D
but I have gotten rid of alot.
Funny thing, my younger brother brought me while i was in the hospital a couple years ago a bag of ol' valentines cards from when I was in grade school.
hahaha ya, weird but he had them at his house from when my folks cleaned out their attic some years ago and had us take all our stuff from school years.
I don't think I would ahve kept them had I had them but now there is this extra memory attached to them LOL< haha, Jerry you ahve us diving inside our drawers and closets now LOL.

Thats what I love about your posts Jerry;
you always manage to give us all a wake up
call. Now.. I am going to be busy for quite
a while; starting with the Bedroom, then
TV room, kitchen, guest bedroom, hall closet,
living room, dining room, summer room,
cabinets, oh gosh, I'm tired from thinking
about it....love this article Jerry!
kind Regards

This is wonderful!! I have no hope of living with too much clutter whilst my youngest son lives with us. he is a neat 19 year old (yes, unusual hey, should count my blessings?) who detests storage of non essential items! "What do you need this for?" "Get rid of it?" "Crikey, this study is a mess!" "I've thrown out all the empty icecream containers"...and sometimes I cringe at the time and think "hold on, I needed them" but the truth is once gone I never miss them!! I can see how people get attached to their clutter but there is nothing as theraputic as having a good clean-out. I can also see how it can be possible to gather so much stuff around you and then not know where to start to clean out. The place becomes a mess and depression sets in.
But I do love the way you've rounded this off - giving away clutter to add to someone else's may not be the key!! If it is truly useless do what my son does, in the bin.
(Ahh! But yesterday he moved out into the shed my hubby's back stretcher - to aid back problems - not sure that was a wise move even though hubby isn't using it right now??)

Oh! Now I just have to ensure my wife does not read this else she will go "See! I am not the only one in the world who feels a clutter free environment is a good thing. Atleast now get some sense and put your stuff where it belongs"
Thanks Jerry. This is a real eye opener for lazy guys like me :-)

Ok, I like this. Its funny but we must have been thinking the same. Lately my kids and myself have been going through our storage room to get rid of stuff so we can get rid of the storage. Thanks for expressing my thoughs so well!> Very well written!

hahahaha I do this twice a year, but all in one day. I get so tired of the stuff cluttering my appartment that I just HAVE TO clean. Can you believe that the day after I cleaned it all up it's a complete mess again because I can never find anything >_<
Oh and I always seem to manage to throw something out of which I think 'never gonna use that again. Ever!', and the the next day or week all of a sudden I have found a need for exactly that what I threw away... I can be very stupid that way =P
And yes, I shall be diving around in my clutter too. Thanks for the wake up call :)

Not only can I identify with this, but so can my family. Especially my parents house. My dad is now in a nursing home, but mom and dad's house has one pathway through it and that's it! He has been the "King of Clutter" for I don't know how many years. Since he's now in the nursing home, my sisters and I will have to help our mom "de-clutter" their home when and if dad goes back.
My son and I live in a two bedroom apartment so I don't have the room to clutter it up. My sisters and I also have that bad habit of trying to collect clutter. I look around every six months or so and if I'm not using it or planning on using it, I give it away to Goodwill. However, I am sentimental...yikes! That makes it bad too.
Great job once again! Maybe one day I'll be as talented as you are my friend - ?
Take care.

Oh boy, I'm glad I don't collect stuff. In fact, I dislike all the things that wake up memories in me...
I really like the way you wrote this, to me, it looked like a TV commercial. One of those funny ones, but also the ones that appeal (hope I spelled that the way I should of) for something better.

I love it - I am so anti clutter -The way I see it every time you move a piece of clutter from one place to another - valuable seconds of your life have been wasted. " Oh I might need that someday" is your death sentence.
