What exactly is random? I’ve seen on some profiles that some people believe that they are random. What exactly do they mean? According to the Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, the word random means “a haphazard course; without definite aim, direction, rule, or method”. Does this mean that the person has no definite course or direction for their lives? Does this mean that their stories, poetry, or whatever has no definite aim? If you look further into the word random, you will find that it has absolutely no pattern or regularity. Sorry, but human nature has patterns in it. No, I don’t think we’re all OCD or anything, but we do have patterns in our daily lives. Another word for random can be “unpredictable”. But, is this exactly true? I mean, sure my mood swings are unpredictable; but I can predict that around a certain time of the month that they’re going to be out of whack. And, again, I go back to human nature.  Trust me. We’re predictable.

I agree with you. The concept of random has been tapped in prose, poetry, and personality again and again and now it is almost nothing more than saying "I think I am unique." Some "random" people enjoy writing "random" prose and poetry, which have no definite aim, and it is never really well received since the poem or prose itself means nearly nothing. This type of writing is produced often because it is easy to write.

All humans are predictable, and a solace in the belief that one is "random" can be an excuse for some people's way of thinking "no one can predict me, and no one understands me." However, the more random one believes him or herself to be, the more likely that many people sees him or her as very predictable.

Your article was very thought provoking.

Thank you so much for commenting. To me, the people that think they're so random, believes that they are truly "unique". I have a medical term for these people. Terminal Uniqueness.

I truly believe that people follow patterns. And usually straight to a Tee.

Random-shandom.

I beleive this to be a 'rando tandrom' lololoollol
ok, I just couldn't stop that one from comming out sorry. the rhyme was just too cute.

ok, when first hearing the word 'random' I think 'boring' but as you say it is discribed as 'without direction, rule, method, so you wonder, do these people like to them selves as 'out of the ordinary' you know 'not connected to the whole'
because by that means it would be as if to think you are individual and nothing effects you when in fact all does effect and yes there are patterns.

if some people voice they are random maybe it is because they like to feel diconected. who knows?
is it a free feeling or jsut a bad attitude?

patterns yes ^_^ I won't get started there lol, you'll never hear the end of me loloololololol :D
take care sweetie, be good, see you laters ~

Hmmm, Katie. What an interesting point of view, the feeling of disconnected from others, and other living things. I, too, believe we are all connected in one way or another. We are all in conjunction with the earth and all it's living things. Cause and effect is not so random, is it?

Thanks so much for the insight!
