              THE SOCIOLOGY OF SUICIDE

                            ARVIND K PANDEY

The irony is that adhering to higher values is viewed as an obstacle in attainment of the cherished dreams. The previous generations were successfully able to rise above the complexities of life because of its deep faith in the religious beliefs. Since this generation has been fed on ‘borrowed ideals’, it has come to imbibe mercurial tendencies, those that often invite unpleasant consequences; to say the least. The worse part of this whole affair is that any attempt of restoration of these age old values comes to be labeled as ‘saffronisation’ by the pseudo -intellectuals who as usual come to resist it. This pathetic situation, involving the suicides by bright students, which has come to hit metros should be an eye –opener for those who are unable to find any thing worth for emulation in our culture. At least they should now refrain themselves from engaging in mindless criticism. It’s really sad and unfortunate that the deserving souls always find themselves in pool of troubles.
