Chapter 6: Who the Hell are You?!
“COLLIN! You’re awake!” I just really wanted to focus on Collin so I tried to stay calm.
“Hey you! Umm who are you anyway?” okay, hopefully Collin was just kidding like he always does. Because if not, I’ll be the one dead.
“Umm… who are you? This is supposed to be a private room,” that was the girl I didn’t like already.
“I am Cali Benson and Collin is my boyfriend. Who are you?”
“I am Tessa Jenkins and Collin is actually my boyfriend and he has been since fifth grade.”
“Umm, if you two don’t mind, but I’m a little confused. Umm… Collie-”
“Cali.”
“Cali, I don’t know what you’re talking about because I’ve dated Tess my whole life practically. I would never go out with anyone but her. So how do you know me?” this couldn’t be happening!
“That’s not true! You and I have been going out for two months!”
“Noo, I’ve been with Tess that long so maybe you have the wrong room or something.”
“No I don’t!”
“Then tell me something I would never tell anyone else about me.”
“Okay then, you said that although you love football, you never want to be one of those jocks where their whole life revolves around them. Also, you said that your brother is the greatest person you ever and will ever meet in your lifetime.”
“How do you know that? I would never tell anyone those things. Not even my family or closest friends.”
“Because you’re my boyfriend!” I couldn’t believe this! He didn’t know who I was!
“Okay Mr. Becker, it’s nice to see you awake. Awe Cali, nice to see you. It’s a good thing you were here with him,” I didn’t even see the doctor walk in.
“Are you telling me that I know her?” Could Collin seriously not know me? How could this have happened?
“Why yes, she’s been here since you were checked in and never left your side. Now let’s take a look at this leg of yours.”
When the doctor lifted up the blanket, I immediately saw half a leg. Now I remember why I’m here. To help him no matter what happens.
“WHAT THE HELL! WHERE’S MY LEG!” I probably don’t have to tell you who had said that.
“Collin just calm down, it was the accident.”
“Holy shit! How am I supposed to walk with one leg? Let alone run for football?”
“Where’s his leg? Oh my gosh! Collin, I… I… I have to go,” I guess Tessa couldn’t handle it that her ‘boyfriend’ had half of a leg.
“Tess! Wait please!”
“Collin, don’t worry, I’ll stay,” I had to keep my promise that I would never leave him.
“Well Mr. Becker, you look okay and would you like us to call your parents?”
“No, not yet anyway please. I have to talk to… Cali.”
“Okay, if you need anything just page a nurse,” and then I was alone with the love of my life that had no idea of who I was.
“What happened to me?” I could see that Collin was hurting after just finding out he had no leg. I would too if I was in his position.
“Okay, well… umm, I was supposed to meet you at a church off of Shattuck and Hermansau. Well when you didn’t show, I just thought you were late because of practice but after an hour I went home. On my way home I had heard sirens in the background and just ignored it.”
“The sirens were for me, weren’t they?”
“Ya. When I got home, I was so mad that when I saw your number appear on my cell, I chucked at my wall.”
“So I guess I owe you a new phone and… an apology.”
“No you don’t. The only thing you owed me already happened.”
“Getting in an accident is what you wanted? That’s a little weird. No offense.”
“No, the only thing you owed me was to be okay and wake up.”
“Oh, okay. That sounds a little better. You can continue with the story if you want.”
“Sure. Well, after I threw my cell at the wall I cried myself to sleep,” why was I telling him this? He shouldn’t feel bad about himself because of me. Anyway, “I was awoken by my mom saying that you and your Ben were in a car accident. So, we rushed over to the hospital and found your brother coming out into the lobby. He was okay; he only had a broken arm and a couple of bruises. He said that a semi-truck smashed into the side of the truck. Ben tried to cover you but it was over too quick. You were crushed and have been in a coma for four days.”
“Wow. I can’t believe it. I guess Ben is a hero.”
“Ya, I wish he was my brother. I think though that he blamed himself for what happened for you though. So I think he’ll be really happy that you’re okay.”
“Can you call him for me? Please, I want to talk to him before my parents find out.”
“Okay, umm, I’ll just go call him I guess,” as I was about to stand up, his hand gripped onto my hand.
“Cali, I may not remember who you are, but I have a feeling you won’t leave me.”
“We promised each other that no matter what happens, we’ll always be there for each other. I guess I’m just keeping my promise.”
“Thank you,” after he said that, I could tell I was blushing because he started to blush and then loosened his grip on my hand.
I almost didn’t want to leave him but I knew he trusted me so I left.
When I tried Ben’s cell, he didn’t pick up. So I tried a couple more times, still nothing. So I tried the home phone and still nothing. So I thought I should go back to his room. So of course, I did!
“Did you get a hold of him?”
“No, he wouldn’t pick up on either his cell or your home phone. I’ll just try later.”
“Are you hungry, because you can go get something to eat?”
“I’m fine, honest.”
“Mr. Becker, we need to take your vitals so we’ll need some privacy. If you don’t mind sweetie,” I hate nurses, they always come at the wrong time.
“How about you take your lunch break now, Cal?”
“Whatever you say your majesty!” it almost felt like the old days until the nurse lifted up the blanket covering his half leg.
“God, do you have to reveal my leg to me? I almost forgot that I had a half leg!” yup, that was defiantly my old Collin.
On my way down to the cafeteria, I saw someone that looked like Ben being rolled in through the doors of the hospital. I knew though that nothing could happen any more in my life. So I just ignored it. That was my problem. I always ignore the things in my life that will change me forever. It will especially affect Collin. Maybe even more than me, most defiantly more than me.
