"No, Daddy! No, stop!"

"This has to be done!"

"No, please. Please! No, Daddy! Stop!"

I woke up gasping for air and I looked around my room. It was just a dream. I told myself over and over.

Oh I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Emily Archer, I'm 18, soon to be 19, and I only have a few friends. I live with my mom most of the time, she and I have grown close, she's kind of like a friend to me, but she isn't. I only go to my Dad's a few times a month because of his job, it keeps him travelling.

I glanced over at my end table and stared at my phone, too lazy to pick it up, so I just waited to see if I had a message indicated by the blinking red light. Oh, I have a message, either from Jo, or Derek.

"Text me when you're awake, and I'll come get you." It was Jo.

Jo is my best friend, has been since we were younger, she was there for me when my dad left us. She has a younger brother, and she comes from a wealthy family, but she's still my best friend, until the end. We promised each other that.

I grabbed my phone and replied, "I'm awake."

I got up from my bed and walked to the bathroom half- awake trying to wake up, that's when I could smell the heavenly aroma of my beloved coffee brewing. Thank you, Mom. I carried on with my morning routine and put a decent outfit and grabbed my phone and practically floated down the stairs to the coffee.

I looked at my phone when I got downstairs, and there was a message from Jo, "I haven't eaten yet, but I'm up to grabbing food. What do you want?"

"Erm. My mom made coffee… thank fucking god. You know how hard it is for me to get out of bed without that heavenly stuff. um, bagels.. or a muffin.. or.. something."

"Bacon! Bagels and bacon! Get your pants on! I'm coming!"

I laughed and replied" My pants are on! Jesus. See you when you get here. Floating towards the coffee now."

I grabbed my usual cup of coffee and Mom just sat there watching me do my morning routine.

"You drink too much coffee." Was all Mom said.

"Oh come on, Mom, it's not that much. I don't drink the whole pot."

"Almost." She said while staring at the pot.

I walked out of the kitchen and went outside and I texted Jo again "Get me coffee."

"Okay." Was her simple response.

I was standing around outside for a little while, then I texted Jo again, "hurry up. I want the good coffee"

My phone vibrated, "I'M COMING, I'M COMING!" she replied.

I smiled and then I saw Derek walking across the street.

"Derek," I said with a smile as he wrapped his arms around me. "I missed you."

"No need to miss me anymore. I'll be home for a while."

"Really? How long will you be home for this time?"

Derek travels with his family during the holidays, they want him to take over their family business when they want to stop doing it so it stays in the family. I've been with Derek for just over 2 years and everything feels worth it.

"As long as I need to be."

I smiled, "hey, um, Jo is coming here. And we were going to have a girls day… so…" I said while looking down.

"Oh, not a big deal, I'll be by later."

"I'll call you after." I smiled and got on my tippy toes and kissed him. Damn his height.

I watched Derek walk back towards home and I decided to sit down and wait for Jo, as patiently as I could.

5 minutes had passed then she pulled up and I stood up and smiled, Finally! I thought.

"Hey you." She said as she got out of the car.

"FINALLY. Coffee! Oh, and hi!"

"I didn't know what to get you so I got you an assortment of muffins." Jo said as she handed over the box.

"Yay!" I exclaimed, excited for the muffins, but mostly the magical coffee.

Jo bit into her bagel, "What do you want to do today?

"Party and keep me away from more coffee! I don't know, Derek stopped by a few minutes ago."

"How long is here this time?" She asked knowing about how he travels with his parents.

"He said a while, whatever that means." I responded, "But I think he'll be gone in a week."

She didn't even blink, "what a shock." She said as she continued to eat her bagel, "Hey, Melanie is having a party tonight at her cottage, if you want to go?"

I smiled slightly, "Do I ever! I'm kind of tired of being here, and Derek never being around, and the nightmares are back."

"This should be good then," Jo started, "I've been kind of stressed too, with Adam and all."

"As long as you let me crash on your couch, is he being stupid again?"

Jo laughed, "When isn't he?"

I just stared at her and shook my head, this will do us both some good, it's good to get out every once in a while I told myself. I sniffed my coffee and sighed.

"Black?" I asked Jo.

"I'm not new to this, Em." She replied with a smile, in other words, yes, it was my heavenly black coffee.

The day went by, Jo and I did our usual watching movies, and gossiping kind of day, she left around 5, and I started getting ready. I never knew getting ready for this party could be stressful, I want to look good. *ding* there goes my phone.

"Hey, leaving tonight, sorry. -Derek."

"Okay." I replied
