We were interrupted by a nurse, who was alarmed that my heart
rate was through the roof. Zeke coughed and I giggled.
"Oh," she began. "I see." She turned to Zeke. "Well, just take it
easy, she's still fairly breakable." As she walked out the door I
saw her shoulder's shake.
I turned back to face Zeke. He had a concerned look on his face.
"Indi… I just wanted to say how sorry," I interrupted him before
he could continue.
"Shut up Zeke," I said and then began kissing him again.
Whatever had been on his mind (an apology I no longer wished to
hear) was forgotten. He was totally into the kiss, until the
stupid heart monitor went through the roof and he pulled away.
"Stupid machine," I complained, before laughing at myself.
Zeke laughed too. He looked so cute when he laughed.
He re-arranged his position so he was lying next to me. He
wrapped his arm around my shoulder. I leaned my head into his
shoulder and sighed.
"Remind me to never lie to you again," Zeke started. "Because
then you hate me and I miss you like crazy."
"Remind me not to hate you!"
"Why?" he asked.
I paused for a moment before answering
"Cause then Aimee will come and beat me up!"
"What!" he replied in a fake-offended voice.
We laughed again.
My parents came back in. Zeke made an attempt to get up, but I
wouldn't let him.
"Indi, could news. Just another hour or two then you can go
home!" exclaimed Dad.
"Yay," I answered sleepily.
"Well, we'll leave you to get a bit more sleep," Mum said as she
backed towards the door.
They left and again Zeke attempted to get up.
"I can go too if you want?" he asked.
"No, stay," I requested sleepily.
Resting my head against his chest, I closed my eyes and fell
* * *
"Wake up sleepy," I heard someone say.
My eyes fluttered open.
"It's time to go," said Aimee.
"Unless you want to stay here…?" added Claudia.
"No way," I replied. "Oh, Aimee, Zeke, you're not heading back
now are you? It's dark!"
"Oh, your mum said that as long as you're up to it we could stay
at your place for a few days."
"Awesome," I replied, getting off the bed.
Stepping into the bathroom to quickly change, I realised I also
had bruises decorating my arms and legs. I sighed.
"Mum," I said as I stepped out. "Can I borrow your jumper?"
"Why…" she began. "Oh, of course you can sweetie."
Her jumper was long and baggy, exactly was I was looking for.
A nurse came in and escorted us out to our cars. I hopped in
Mum's car with Zeke and Sara.
The trip home was short, so I soon found myself at home. Zeke and
Aimee went into the guest room and Claudia went home. Exhausted,
I climbed into bed.
As I rolled over and my bruised, sensitive body yelled in pain; I
couldn't help but cry. I looked terrible and felt lousy. I sobbed
quietly until I heard a knock at the door.
It was Sara.
"Come in," I murmured.
She took one look at me and wrapped her arms around me.
"Oh Indi, it's not that bad. You look fine, you'll be fine."
For someone who was only 13, Sara sure was mature and a great
"Get some sleep Indi," she said.
"Night Sara," I replied.
I rolled over and shut my eyes. Maybe everything would look
better in the morning.
