The treck through the forest was all but easy. As we trudged through the mud and deep sand, i had a sudden feeling that we were being followed. Never a good feeling to have, i thought to myself.
"Be careful, we don't know what is out here. It could be anything." I warned with a hint of fear in my voice that i hoped no one heard. These people needed a leader, someone that is fearless. "Not me." With that comment i earned myself a few odd looks, but i continued on, unfortunately not paying attention to where i was going. I stepped right into-
"Quicksand! Ahhhh!" I fell into the dark damp hole, struggling and only succeding in making myself sink even further.
"Stay still! Stop moving it'll only make you sink more!" I heard a voice cry out to me. I couldn't really hear it through the pounding in my head. It came out as a jumbled mess that i could vaguely hear. I could have sworn it was Damon, in that sweet, melodical voice-STOP IT! Lucas, think of Lucas, not Damon. I mentaly chastised myself, well as well as i can while sinking to my doom.
As i keep sinking i thought i was going to die. My waist, my ribs, my shoulders, and finally my head went under. After the sand was about to swallow my arms that were above my head, i blacked out from all the pressure.
When i came to, I was aware that someone was doing CPR on me. Pressing five counts over my heart then five breaths. I didnt open my eyes, I didnt want this moment to end. When the persons lips met mine, i knew it was Lucas. Lucas, i thought i would never see him again! I never thought i would see anyone ever again. Five breaths, five counts, when his lips met mine again, i kissed him back, not caring who saw. As we deepened our kiss, i heard someone clear their throat. Finally I opened my eyes, but only, it wasn't Lucas that i saw. It was...
"Damon! Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, what did I just do?" I looked around, luckily, only Lucas was there, only, that wasn't very comforting at the moment. I felt my face flush, and i saw Damon turn a nice bright shade of red aswell.
"Lucas! I though he was you! I-I-I'm so sorry." I choked back the sobs that were threatening to escape my throat. I saw him give me a dissaproving look and walk away. I felt like crying, i looked over at Damon again and he looked at his feet.
"I'm sorry my lady, I have no idea what i have just done. Lucas did not know CPR so i had to do it...I'm sorry."
"No, no, it's not your fault, okay? Don't you ever think that. You understand me?" I saw him nod and stand up. He took my hand and helped me stand aswell. I looked into his eyes, and saw that the usual light and joy had faded out of them, replaced my regret...and longing. I sighed and started forward.
I heard the crunch of leaves off to the side of me, and i whipped around. I was a huge tiger. If I didn't know it was here to kill me, i would have loved it. Damon jumped in front of me in a protective stance. I stifled an eye roll and said, "It's okay, i got this."
After a few moments hesitation, he reluctantly shifted out of his position and let me through. I walked up, slowly, to the tiger with my palm out. It crouched and snarled. I felt Damon try to rush forward again, but i held up my other hand in a universal 'Wait a sec' gesture. I took a few more steps forward and the tiger lunged. Before i knew it, it was on top of me, trying to bite my face. I kicked out with my foot and pushed it off of me.
I jumped up and flew forward at it. I drew my knife and the tiger backed up a step. It snarled, but held it's ground. We were moving in circles, like some beautiful yet primitive dance. Never taking our eyes off the other. A feral snarl escapes my lips and i lunge forward again, this time grazing the beasts front leg. He growled and swatted at me, cathing my chest in the process, but i hardley notice, continuing in our dance, gazes locked.
From my periphery i see Damon jump in and distract the beast. He jumps on its back and takes it to the ground, knife poised over its heart, awaiting my signal to kill it. I shake my head slowly and walk over to where it lay on it's side, covered in dirt and dried leaves.
I crouch down and look into the eyes of the beast. It snaps at me and Damon pushes it's head down into the ground, making sure that it can't move again. I look into it's eyes and all struggling stops. It's pupils dilateand watches me with great intensity.
"Get up and don't move after that, you are going to take us to the rest of the group." I say to the tiger. Damon just looks at me like i am a complete psychopath, but shakes his head and allows the ginormous tiger to get up.
It crouches it's front legs to let me climb up, and once i am in between its shoulder blades, i offer my hand down to help Damon up. Although the tiger growled a bit, she let him up nonetheless.
"Jade, I'm going to call you Jade." I pat her neck and she moves forward, as if knowing what direction that our group was traveling in. Heck, she probably did. "Ow, the bumps are hurting my bum," I complained.
I heard Damon cackle behind me, "Bum?"
"Yes, bum. You got a problem with that?" I asked defensively, no one ever left me alone for not swearing, yet when Lucas says things that would make a sailor blush, it's ok.
"No," he cackles again, "No problem at all." He emphazises this with a poke to both my sides. I squeal and almost fall off of Jade. She swings her head back towards us as if to say 'Grow up, will you?
This ride felt like hours, how long were we gone? I felt my eyes getting heavier with each step that Jade took.
"I-I'm tired...can i go to sleep for a bit?" I don't even wait for an answer. I lean back onto his chest and fall asleep to the combined sounds of his heartbeat and Jade's footfalls across the dry leaves.
I woke up, groggily rubbing my eyes, wanting nothing more than to fall back asleep, but i knew i couldn't i had a job to do and people counting on me.
"Wha-where are we?" I looked around and saw nothing, just a bunch of trees and erie, creepy shodows looming every where in the dark. To be honest, they scared the poo outta me, but i couldn't say that. Damon just stroked my hair and said " I don't know, Jade just stopped here."
I raked my gaze across our surroundings once more, looking closer at the shadows, seeing slight movement.
I hoped off Jade and motionned for him to do the same, all the while saying, "We are not alone."
