I awoke to Leon pulling the covers off my bed, exposing me to the harsh, bright light that streamed through my bedroom window.
"I'm up, I'm up," I mumbled more to myself than to him. I sat up and rubbed my eyes.
Standing in the doorway was...
it couldn't be...
"John Roston, friend from hockey," Leon explained.
"Nice to see you again, John," I whispered, glaring at him.
"Katie! Why...how...?"John stuttered, his eyes as wide as his gaping mouth.
"You two know each other?" Leon questioned.
"Just from school," I answered nonchalantly.
"Hmm. Whatever. You got five minutes. Hurry up. Mom's waiting."
As they walked down the hall, I sat in dazed silence before jumping over the railing of my top-bunk bed onto my sister's and getting ready for the day.
