I look around scared, my eyes frantically looking for something familiar. I slowly lifted myself up off the cold ground. I shivered from the cold wind blowing through my bones. There were trees everywhere and I heard cracks and coo’s coming from all around me. I tripped over a root hidden under the dirty dead leaves. I landed in a brown algae filled pond. I almost cried as I felt the slime engulf my body. Luckily the water wasn’t that deep so I didn’t get my head under. I crawled out of my disgusting misery and laid down on the grass. The moon was full and low in the sky. I heard a howl in the distance and I whimpered and pulled my knees up to my chin.

Where am I? was the last thought that went through my mind as I fell asleep again. Will I wake up in a nice warm house? Or will I wake up to the cold dirty place I woke up to in the past.

I woke up to my cold reality of the woods. I stood up and observed my surroundings. The trees weren’t very close together so I wasn’t too far from civilization. I heard yelling in the distance and followed it. I came to a path and there was a man dressed in orange staring at me in amazement.

“You’re alive!! Honey, what happened?” the man said his green eyes sparkling in love and happiness.

“I’m sorry but I have no idea who you are.” I said with a confused expression on my face. The man’s exited expression fell into gloom.

“Adele, I’m your dad, what’s wrong with you?” he said very panicked.

“Ummm I don’t think so. I would know if you were my Dad. Could you get me somewhere warm and dry?” I said scratching a line on my skin creating a white mark. Wow I thought I was just really tan.

“Oh no I need to get you to a hospital! Come one follow me!” he said choking up.

I rolled my eyes and said, “I don’t know about the hospital thing but, oh well!” I followed him down the trail for about 20 minutes before he stopped at a huge truck.

“Get in the hummer,” he mumbled. I stared at him and opened the purple door and climbed in. I waited for another 20 minutes and I was about to kill myself from boredom. The huge vehicle finally came to a stop at a huge white building. Nooooo I’m not crazy!! I said in my head and I giggled out loud which caught the attention of the man in the front seat. He cocked an eyebrow at me and got out of the car. I followed him out and tried to catch up to him.

“Hey dude, what’s your problem?” I shouted to him thirty feet away from him.

“Your not ma petite chou. I need to take you to the hospital.” He said angrily.

“Well of course I’m not but you could at least wait for me to catch up, gosh!” I said running to catch up to him. We got to the front desk where a woman with drawn on eyebrows and dark lip liner was sitting.

“What can I do for you?” she said in a monotone voice not looking up from her long, fake, pink nails.

“This is my daughter Adele Phiolon. I just found her in the woods and she can’t remember anything.” The woman looked up shocked and called a doctor. As she talked to him she kept staring at me in astonishment.

I looked down at my shoes and picked at my grime filled fingernails. Weird they were the same color as that no-eyebrow-lady. Yuck!

“Floor 3 room 124,” the lady said staring at me like I had four heads. Orange-man pulled me onto a full elevator. I was squished onto a big fat man that stunk worse then me, and that’s very stinky.

“You’re that lost teenage girl from the news aren’t you!” a women in a dark blue suit said grinning at me.

“Uhh I really don’t know,” I said scrunching my nose up at her.

“You are I know it! You’ve been missing for 3 weeks how are you alive?” she exclaimed. I looked at her in bewilderment. I scratched the back of my head and felt a huge scab. My jaw dropped and I started freaking out. How did I get that!? Who am I? Where do I live? WHAT HAPPENED?! I started hyperventilating and the rest of the occupants on the elevator looked at me and recognized me. The elevator light lit up on 3 and Orange-man pulled me out of my anxiety. I walked down the long white hallway fidgeting about the information I just attained. I was pulled harshly into a hospital room that had a white couch, (I’m not too surprised at that) a bed and a medium sized TV.

“What the hell kind of sick room is this?” I said obnoxiously, scrutinizing the room, which looked like a normal bedroom. A petite nurse flinched as I said ‘hell’ and told me that there was a bathroom with a shower near the back of the room. I marched over to the bathroom and as soon as a shut the white door I slid down the wall and sobbed into my knees.

“Who am I?” I whispered into my knees as my salty tears ran down my face. I wiped my wet face and looked at how the tears made my hands slightly muddy. I sighed and turned the shower on burning hot. I stripped myself of my clothes breathing in the hot steam. I walked in and let the scorching hot water take hold of my worries. As I scrubbed off the lake grime I pondered what Orange-man, or ‘Dad’, said about me not being me. If I was his daughter and I lost my memory wouldn’t I be the same person? I sighed and sat down, the water pounding on my back. My thick dark hair stuck to my naked body as I let the tears and shower water run down my face. I closed my eyes and concentrated hard on my past.

Any childhood memories? No.
A Mom, Dad and family? No.
Best friends? No.
Pets? No.

My lips quivered and I tried to keep in a sob.

Favorite color? No.

I couldn’t keep it in anymore a sob escaped from my lips. I wept and wept till my eyes grew tired and I absentmindedly touched the back of my head. I felt the scab. It was huge, the length of my middle finger and just as wide. I got up and turned the water off and pulled myself out of the tub and got a towel. I shivered and wrapped the towel around me tighter. I realized that I didn’t have any clothes to change into. I was very sleepy from my lament and I wrapped my body with a towel and walked out of the bathroom. A nurse and a doctor were discussing something that was on the clipboard they were holding before they looked up.

“Uhh can I have some clothes?” I said with a half-hearted smile. I looked down at my body that I just noticed were covered in fading bruises.

The doctor and nurse’s faces softened at my presence, they nodded quietly and the nurse walked out of the room to get them. The doctor sat down and beckoned me over. I hesitantly shuffled over to him and sat down next to him.

“So you really don’t remember anything?” he said softly, his beady blue eyes gazed into mine. I nodded. I closed his eyes momentarily in disappointment.

“Umm doctor? I got a huge scab on the back of my head, could you check that out? Oh and I have bruises all over my body.” I said looking a brown and yellow mark on my arm. He pushed his glasses down onto his nose and inspected the bruises. He nodded to himself and made a movement towards my head and I leaned forward for him. He parted my hair away from the wound.

“Hmm… I’ll get a better look at that later, but I have to go so, I’ll see you later.” He says his sympathy showing clearly on his face. I sighed, I was hoping for some answers. I bit my lip and jumped on the couch. I turned on the TV and trained my eyes on the moving pictures. It was something about a cowboy and a woman falling in love with him, but all I could think of was, what happened? For hours I mulled over the possibilities of a dragon holding me hostage, sleep walking, that I was secretly in the mob. The funny thing is that I remember all this stupid stuff like dragons and mob movies but don’t remember anything that anything to do with me.

I was jolted out of my thought when high-pitched giggling filled my ears. I cringed and turned around to see a group of plastic girls grinning at me. They each held a bundle of balloons. I cocked an eyebrow and sat up.

“OMG!!” a bleach blonde girl squealed saying each letter. “Chica, I’m so freaking happy to see you!” She hugged me quickly and kept grinning at me expectantly. The other girls stood there chattering about how happy they were to see me and how they missed me soooo much. I just sat there staring at them as they barely noticed me when they were talking about me.

“Uhh I have no idea who you people are!” I yelled over their consistent talking. They all stopped and looked at me with such surprise that I can’t even express in words.

“WHAT?!” they all said at once, as if they practiced it on their time free of nail appointments.

“Adele what’s wrong with you? We’re your best friends.” A girl with brown hair announced to her friends more then asking me. The rest of the girls nodded.

“I seriously have no idea who you people are. The doctor says I have amnesia. I don’t remember any of you, sorry.” I said a weak smile across my face.

“What is amnesia?” a tall girl in the back asked dumbly.

I rolled my eyes, “It’s when you bump your head, and then you can’t remember anything! Oh no!” I said sarcastically. The girls looked at me with confusion and I stared at them shocked. How did they not understand my 10-year-old humor? I regained my composure and smiled a fake cheesy smile. I have to get information from them about my life.

“So, what happened at school? I don’t remember anything can you tell me? Do I have a boyfriend?” I asked them. They all smiled and went on about how I was the most popular girl in school and how I have the most wonderful boyfriend.

“His name is Carl and he’s so sweet and adorable!” the bleach blonde one says. Carl? What an ugly name! I thought.

“How were my grades?” I asked and they fell quiet again.

“You never told us your grades, but you never studied so I don’t think you did that well.” A girl with an abnormally large nose said sadly in a nasally voice. Oh no. I thought, I better ask for the homework I missed.

“How old am I?” I asked and they grew hushed.

“How can you not remember your own age? Pshhh!” the bleach blonde one called out cackling at her petty insult. They all laughed along with her. She must be the new leader.

“Wow, don’t you remember me say I have memory loss and I have no idea who you are or anyone else is? Wow, you have a bad enough memory to match mine.” I snapped back at them. They giggled at the fight that was about to ensue.

“Excuse me?” the blonde asked glaring at me. She stepped up to me and stuck up her nose, which made her look very unattractive.

“Why don’t you forget about this and leave. I’m tired and I have a lot of missed school work I need to do.” I said my words dripping with fake sugar. My eyes betrayed my sweet words and were glaring into the blonde’s dark blue eyes.

“Come on girls, lets give Adele her rest!” the small nurse said nervously. The other girls smiled and waved goodbye while the bleach blonde glared at me. I smile back and wiggled my fingers at them. The door was shut behind them and I sighed in relief.

“Oh my god thank you for that!” I said to the nurse. She blushed and nodded.

“Oh can you get me my missed school work? I’m really bored and was wondering if I could do something productive?” I asked thoughtfully, after the talk of not knowing my grades I got kind of spooked. “Oh and can you get me a copy of my report card too? Thank you.” She smiled and nodded leaving me some food.
