Ross was on the couch with his hands in his hair and him leaning forward. Lily ran up to him and sat on the couch next to him rubbing his back. He whispered something to her and she looked up at me.
I thought she was going to say something to me but she just put her head down and shook her head. I walked over there and bent down so I could see some of Ross' face, "What is going on?"
Ross opened his mouth but nothing came out. Lily stepped in, "He told me that Liam is with Aaron right now. Aaron told us there is a high possibility that he will not make it."
I clenched my hands, "Where are they?"
"Up in Liam's room on the top floor, first door to
I nodded and headed straight upstairs not letting anything get in my way. When I reached to the wooden door and opened the door slowly listening to the deep breathing. I saw Liam laying on the bed defenseless and hurt. Aaron was working on something in a bottle on a table nearby, occasionally putting that basic medication on him.
Aaron looked up and saw me watching, "If you have time to stand there and watch come help me."
I walked over there and he gave me a white cloth, "Dip this with this solution and dab it on his wound on his side. Be very gentle when you do it and don't add too much. I am working on a pain reliever and fast recovery. I'll have it finished in a bit."
I shrugged and took the cloth. I dipped it a bit in the solution with the corner and bent over to Liam. I slid the cloth slightly across his stitched up wound and I heard him whine a bit about the pain.
Aaron looked over, "I said dab."
I started dabbing very slowly at the wound that was perfectly stitched up by black like wires. There was no new blood just the extra dry blood. I mouthed I'm sorry to him.
Aaron got done with his solution and told me to stand out of the way real fast and I did so. He grabbed a new white cloth and poured the greenish liquid onto Liam's wound. He placed the cloth over it and told me to press slightly onto it while he cleans up a bit and give Liam some pain killers through the mouth.
As I slightly pressed onto it, Aaron forced Liam's mouth open and poured a little of the basic pain reliever
he gave me before. Aaron looked over to me and told me to take off the cloth slowly and throw it in the trash. I did and he said now all Liam needs is rest.
"Thanks for the help, Caden." he took a good look of me when I stood up, "What happened to you?"
"Please don't ask."
" I understand. You can use the shower in this room since we get most of your clothes out of Liam's room." He walked over to the dresser, "I'll pull you out new clothes. Just put those ones in the trash. Come down stairs when you are finished."
I nodded and he left the room. I looked over at Liam and he seemed a lot more calm as he was sleeping. I went straight to the bathroom and closed the door. I looked in the mirror and my face was dotted red. I glared at my hair which was stained dark red from the Breathers' blood. I stripped down and turned on the shower. I got in and let the water engulf my entire pale body. The water rushed down my face making everything below me red as well.
I washed every inch of my body and my hair and got out. I reached for a towel and scrubbed my hair until it was damp. I wrapped the towel around my waste and went to go get my clothes on top of the dresser. Once I got dressed, I put the blood stained ones in the laundry basket and took a look back at Liam. He stilled laid there peacefully.
I ran down the stairs and saw Aaron was no where around in the living room and Lily was still circling Ross' back. I moved closer to them and Lily saw me. She put her finger up to her lips and pointed to Ross. I went over to him and knelt down, "He is okay. He made it through."
Ross looked up at me, his face filled with hope
again, "He is? Everything is perfectly fine?"
I nodded in agreement, "Yes, he is sleeping peacefully feeling no pain at all. He should be awake in a few hours."
Ross cried in joy. Lily smiled and mouthed thank you to me. I just nodded and went into the kitchen because my throat became dry.
I saw Aaron making something over the stove, "What are you making?"
"I'm making something for all of us to eat. I know you haven't eaten in two days, Caden."
I just put my head down, "I suppose. It's getting late anyways so I think I'm just going to sleep for a bit."
"Not until after you eat. I'm almost done and you need something in your stomach."
I inhaled deeply, "Alright."
I grabbed a glass and filled it with water. I sat at the table with my elbow on the table and my hand holding up my head. I combed my hair out with my fingers because I forgot to comb it before I came down. I parted it and waited for it to dry a little more.
Aaron set a glass plate in front of me with a couple of sausages and an egg with a couple pieces of toast.
"I'll be out here in the living room if you need anything."
I just nodded and he left. I picked at my food for a bit rolling my sausages around. I picked up my toast and dipped it into my egg yolk and ate it. It was actually pretty average cooking. I still liked it though. I left the sausages and threw them away leaving my plate in the dishwasher.
I went into the living room and yawned, "I'm going to head up to bed."
"Good night, Caden." Aaron and Ross said.
Lily ran up to me and gave me a hug, "I know you must've went through a lot today. Good job at staying alive." She kissed my cheek and said goodnight to me. I said it back to her.
I headed upstairs and went straight to my room. I laid my head down on my soft pillow and didn't even bother getting under the covers. I shut off the lamp beside me and shut my eyes. I fell asleep.
In the morning, I felt a heavy something sitting on the edge of my bed. When I opened my eyes, Liam was there. He smiled and said, "Good morning sleepyhead."
I sat up and rubbed my tangled up hair, "Morning." I gave a yawn and stretched out my back, "What time is it?"
I shut my eyes tight and then opened them again, "I'm glad to see that you are okay, Liam."
"Me too. Anyways, Lily told me to tell you it's time to eat some breakfast."
"Alright. I'll be down in a bit."
Liam left and I moved out of my bed. I stood up and stretched out my back once more along with my arms. I looked around the room and noticed my window was opened. A bright, yellow sunlight lit up my entire room and filled it with his warm rays. I looked out the window for a bit to see the trees swaying in the very light wind.
I turned around and went downstairs in my pajamas. I heard voices coming out of the kitchen and when I stepped in, Old Man Ross said happily, "Finally, you are awake. Come here and sit, Caden." He patted the empty
seat beside him and I took it.
"Dig in." Aaron said delightedly.
I took a few pieces of toast and a pancake. I drenched them both in syrup and ate away. It was quite delicious and I noticed the syrup was homemade, the best way to eat it.
Lily broke the silence, "Hey Caden, I was just wondering if you would want to go for a walk with me after breakfast?"
I swallowed a mouthful of food, "Sure."
She smiled and finished her last bite and took her plate to the sink, washed it and said, "I'm going to get dressed and be outside waiting for you."
I just nodded and finished my food and orange juice. After a bit, I washed my dishes and went upstairs at my own pace and Liam put out some clothes for me. It was dark straight jeans and a light blue short sleeve shirt. I went downstairs and put on my black converses and headed outside.
Lily was wearing a black low cut tank top, jeans, white shoes, and a red cloak. She smiled when she saw me with her lilac eyes sparkling in the sun. She leaned forward and tilted her head at me, "Ready?"
I nodded and so I followed her into the forest. As we walked side by side and moved tree branches and walked over logs she said, "I have something I really wanted to show you. It usually kept me calm even before I started being at the cabin with you guys."
"What kind of place is this?"
"A special place. You will see it once we get there though."
We kept walking and walking for about a mile or so
down along and then she stopped, "Right ahead of us is my special place." She moved on ahead and pulled the leaves out of her way. I followed her and when I stepped into it, there was a new world full of brightness. The area up had trees towering over us that was perfectly leaned in. Their leaves were much like a weeping willow but more lively. The grass was not tall but not too short either, it was a perfect green color. A few flower patches spread all around the edges.
Lily was spinning around in circles in the sun. She smiled brightly and stopped looking at me. She came over to me and grabbed my arm to pull me in, "Come on, Caden. Soak in the environment."
I looked up and all of a sudden I have been pushed on the ground. To my surprise, I was laughing alongside of her. She looked at me, "You look perfect under the sun. Your eyes sparkle just like crystals. Your hair is the perfect happy blond."
"Thanks, Lily. I really needed this."
She smiled, "Yeah, I figured. You looked pretty beaten up yesterday."
My heart pounded and I folded my hands across my stomach. I looked up more and I could hear the noises of the birds chirping up above the trees. The sound of peace and serenity. I was finally happy, I didn't want this to end.
I heard rustling from the entrance we came in at and we both stood up quickly wondering what was to come. What was to come was just Liam. He smiled and combed over his hair. He had a button up shirt with the top three buttons unbuttoned and wore flares with white sneakers.
"Have I interrupted something?"
Lily shook her head and laughed, "We were just
having some fun. Want to join?"
Liam put his hands out, "Nah, I think I'm fine. Ross wanted me to check up on you guys. I'll be going." He gave a salute, "See you guys later." He winked and went on his way out.
We both turned to each other and burst out laughing. Lily was laughing the most because she was literally rolling on the ground laughing. She went over to me and tripped me so I fell, right on top of her. We both stopped laughing and she bit her bottom lip. My heart pounded non stop and I rolled over. That was kind of weird.
"Um, do you want to head back to the cabin?"
I nodded and we went back. The guys were in the living room playing cards and when they say us they all smiled at the same time. Ross was the one to say something, "Well, look who came back so soon. Come join us, we are just doing a little play of cards."
I held up my hands, "No thanks. I don't know how to play."
Lily got excited written all over her face, "Of course!" She sat down and Ross dealt her some cards. She looked carefully at each one of them.
I just walked around and all of a sudden heard the phone ringing. Ross told me I could get it and so I went over into the kitchen and grabbed the phone.
A girl's voice came from the other end, "Hello? Is Ross there?"
"He is playing cards with some others."
"Oh, okay. Just tell him the Rachel called and to call me back once he is done."
"Um, alright." We hung up the phone and I headed back into the living room, "Ross, Rachel said to give her a call back when you are done."
Ross just flapped his hand, "Yeah, yeah." I can tell they were all very focused into their game.
Liam slapped down five of his cards and so did everyone else. Lily got extremely happy and stole all of the chips, "Ha! I won!"
Lily jumped with joy as the other boys threw their cards in the center of the table. They didn't play again and cleaned it up, putting it back under the couch cushion. I didn't want to say anything at all so I just leaned against the wall.
Ross got up and said he had a phone call to make. All I heard were mhm and yeah. When he hung up, he came back in and said, "We have a job to do. Rachel said she has someone who needs to be assassinated. His name is Brass Rogan. He is the top drug seller. If we get rid of him she is offering one million dollars. We in or out?"
Everyone stood up and at the same time they all said, "in". I shrugged and chuckled a bit knowing their greed in money was pretty high.
Ross turned over to me, "Want to come with and see how assassin's work?"
I nodded and we all got into our cars.
"How do you know where he is?"
"That's an easy one. Rachel gave me an address to where he always makes his deals and he also told me what he mainly looks like. We are going after a man in a black suit, red tie, dark brown hair, Mexican skinned, and kind of chubby."
Lily looked at me and smiled big, "Don't worry, you will love it. Feeling the feel of Justice is wonderful."
"The only thing though is that I can't kill on my own."
"Who said you will be killing? You are just observing, boy, Aaron usually does the killing and if now him, Liam or Niall does."
I leaned back in the leather seats and felt the car shake as it headed towards the road. Everyone seemed overly excited and when we arrived they all stepped out. It was morning to almost afternoon and it was odd to assassinate someone in the broad daylight.
"Okay everyone knows what to do so spread out. Caden, you are coming with me and Lily." I followed them and they hit behind some cargo boxes. I did the same, of course, and waited for what they were going to do. Ross pointed over somewhere and when I looked I saw Aaron, then I saw Niall and Liam. It seemed Niall was sharpening one of his weapons that I assumed has been tampered with.
Ross gave out hand signals to him and he nodded. After the dealer made his deals and the customer left, Ross gestured his hand so Aaron could go. Aaron flung the dagger straight towards the dealer, Brass and struck him in the neck. He fell in pain and Niall and Liam flew their weapons at him and flew the scene. Ross, Lily, and I watched him to make sure he dies. He did.
We all raced to the car quietly and safely. We went in and Ross said, "That wasn't as bad as I thought. Usually he would have bodyguards or anything but this man did not. Next stop we are going home again and get some lunch."
We headed back in the cabin and everyone sat on the couch. Ross went in the kitchen and made some sandwiches for everyone.
Niall sat up and looked at his watch, "I have to go. I made a lunch date with someone. I'll see all of you guys soon."
We all waved and said our good byes to him and sat at the table. We had a regular ham and cheese sandwich on wheat bread. I took a bite and that was all what was in it. It was dry so I drank my milk quite often. After when I was finished I took my plate and put it in the dishwasher. I went outside and sat on the front porch. I let the cool breeze blow into my hair and I leaned my head back a little bit.
I heard squeaks coming from the front door and I was thinking it was probably Lily but it wasn't. The steps were a lot deeper and when I looked I saw Aaron. He was leaving somewhere. He looked at me and smiled, "Hey."
After that, he left in one of our cars. I didn't care what he had to do and continued looking at the clear blue sky with a few clouds. I pictured the faces of those Breathers that I took their lives. The faces made me flinch and I let my head fall into my palm. A pain shot through my head.
After all, I did wonder why I am still in my true form even though I am still healed but them I remembered that my contacts were gone. There is no hope for me to turn back.
"My, my, what do we have here? We don't want any sadness."
Lily came out and sat in the chair beside me. She
leaned over, "What's wrong? Don't say it's nothing when I know it is something."
I just shrugged and she pursed her lips, "Fine then, don't tell me anything. It's better to let things out then to hold them in."
"It's alright. I've been holding things in all my life."
"I always ask that about myself."
"Always ask what?"
"Why. I always ask that to myself because I ask why I am still here."
She smiled, "Caden, you are welcomed here no matter what."
We heard a car pull up to our cabin. It was a silver car. Strange people came out of it walking up to the house. Ross rushed out and stopped in shock.
