For my Grandchildren

Poetry By: Angie Blake

This poem I wrote about my Grandchildren. It's a promise I've made to them, even the ones that aren't born yet!

A Grandmother's Love

From the first time I heard that you were coming into
this world I couldn't believe my ears,
A little person amongst us
that we could hold so dear.
From that day forward I promised you
that I would help you learn and grow
To teach you about life and love
and everything you need to know.
From the first time I saw your face
I fell in love with you,
I couldn't help but smile
at everything you would do.
From that day forward I promised you
when I looked into your eyes,
I'd feel your life with honesty and
love and never cause you to cry.
From the first time I held
your hand I could see through the
years,
I'd use my hand to wipe away
any oncoming hurtful tears.
From that day forward I promised you
to hold your hand and guide,
I'd never try to punish you
and always walk at your side.
From the first time I held you
in my arms as fragile as you could be,
I tried to look as far into the future
as far I could see.
I saw myself with wrinkles and a
full head of gray hair,
Getting old wouldn't matter too much to me
as long as all my Grandkids would be there.
From this day forward please promise me
that you'll love me and always care,
even when I'm that insane old lady
that has nothing left
but a full head of gray hair.
