It Brings Me Flowers

Poetry By: Angie Blake

This is a poem that I wrote for my first poetry class back in 2003. It received an 'A' because it made the teacher cry because everything in it was true.

There once was a time a long time ago

Something that many people don't even know,

I knew a girl once and now she is dead,

She died of an overdose of Heroin they said.

I asked her once, "Why do you do that?" I'd cry,

She said she liked the feeling of just being high,

It gives me pride and great mind powers,

She even said that it brought her flowers.

I asked her one day if she'd stay straight with me,

and we took a walk through a field of daisies,

She liked a lonely Rose, one that stood so tall,

She said that that was the fairest, the fairest one of all.

Now years later and what do I see?

No futures, just past and a grave full of daisies,

There's that beautiful Rose, the one that she liked best,

Now under that Rose Nancy Lynn does rest.
