You ask a question and wait to hear the reply
You hear nothing but silence and wonder why
You make a statement, expecting a comment
You're ignored, not a grunt or a nod is lent
Why does silence speak volumes to some?
They imagine so much, while we are mum
Some consider our silence is equated to guilt
Thinking we need time for excuses to be built
Does silence mean the question wasn't heard?
Or the answer required some thoughtful words
Do we seem stupid when we take time to think?
Or are we stupider when we answer in a blink?
Does the offer of silence mean we disagree?
Should we flash our opinions on a marquee?
Pensive and quiet doesn't always mean sad
Nor does it mean that we are angry and mad
I enjoy the serene comfort of being quiet
Putting my words and sentences on a diet
Let my words tell my story and make sense
Do not judge me by omission or pretense
