The Day You Said Good-Bye

Poetry By: AutumnClark

I wrote this for my beloved grandmother who was more of a mother to me than my own. I will forever love her for all that she has done. R.I.P mommy.

I still remember the day..
The day you had to say good-bye.
I wasn't present for it,
But I knew you went without pain.
If I could relive it,
I'd tell you what you meant to me.
If I could relive it,
I'd make you my top priority.
You showed me what a real mother is like.
You took me in as your own,
And now that you're gone, I just can't believe it.
I hate that you left me here;
But I love that you loved me.
I know you had far better places to be,
But the pain is just too great for me to bear.
I saw your face that one last time..
And I knew you were safe.
I saw you in that casket..
That's the day I went cold.
I hate that we have to be apart,
Because I still needed you here.
But I know one day,
I'll see you again.
And I'm hoping that day is near.
'For you are the most precious thing I've lost,
And I can't seem to hold myself together.
But I know I'll be okay, because I know that you aren't too far away.
