Dear Daughters of America

Poetry By: HVMR
Other

A message to all the girls my age, especially to those who know the self-serving cycles of depression. This poem was written as a response to The Virgin Suicides by Jeffry Eugenides.

I approach as a son of Adam’s seed:

Don’t search insofar, there is nothing there.

We all know where the dark path lead.

But darkness exists only for light to bear.

Tis’ your only obligation to bring light

To the dark, as women do, despite plight.

Afterall, it’s not the blood Jesus bled;

It’s the truth that Jesus bravely said.

I can not know this suffering for you.

But I can assure you it’s nothing new.

“There is nothing more sorrowful than to recall times of happiness in the throes of despair.”  - Dante Alighieri
