The heart of the man I loved belonged to another
Many slivers of the red organ had been given to those he cared for
Desires of the flesh drove him to lie
Desires of the heart pushed me towards him
My heart found joy as the voice of reason spoke
I answered truth with the lie I made to safeguard my heart
The lie that was encased in glass shattered, piercing my core
It bled sadness
It bled anger
I yearned for his lips and he seemed to do the same
Cruelty fed his fickle heart
And his tantalizing words brought forth a desire I had long thought was extinguished
