dreaming with a broken wing

Poetry By: Vashti Puls

Sometimes when all things seem at an end
when you have lost both love and home
and feel more alone
than you have ever been
you reach out in your mind
to a safer happier time
when you were connected and free and sensuality was a way of bringing more love to eternity

silently my wings
descend upon the tree
I blend into the scenery
of where i now must be
plain never fancy
simple never adorned
like a flower without scent
made only out of thorns

too many holes to fly now
in distant beloved sky
I hide among the brownness
forever asking why
memories are clear now
the breezes tries to blow me away
I can hardly hold on
to these branches which do sway

Fly- me higher
in my deepest dreams
take me further
than I have ever been

stroke me gently
for I'm fragile as a child
whisper to me love songs
though I am always wild

I hear the sound of crashing
like thunder from above
my love is torn asunder
my roots they have no love
the ax and the machine
have torn my home away
but I cling on steadily
to live another day

I have fallen deeper
asleep upon the ground
crushed by weights too heavy
my breath will make no sound
the birds have all taken flight
the creatures fear this lonely night
though I am around now
in this eerie stillness I'm still hanging on to me

stroke me gently
though I am always wild
sing me love songs
I'm simple as a child

take me further
for I have always been
in my deepest dreams
Flying with you my friend
