Side by Side, Time is Special
My mother-in- law, a dear friend has an illness that’s hard to bare
She has Alzheimer, lost now and no more that person with flare
Once, she had the glow, warm desire to drive, shop, dancing fun It was busy as she knew the day, time and what to wear in the sun
So hard to believe, she changed from vibrant to slow toddler ways
An elderly look appears but she now keeps quiet, just staring days
I feel sad to watch this happening to someone with a huge heart
She doesn’t know what’s going on, our friendship may come apart
It’s difficult but I will often visit, our moment is like a soft breeze I’m a babysitter somehow as we happily watch birds in the trees
Later it’s time for goodbye, she leaves to have something to eat
For a few hours, we had fun and being with her is a special treat
Although there are many sad changes, she still enjoys bright things, outdoor colours, sounds and mostly the pleasures of teatime, cookies!
