“Can You Hear Me Now?”
(Cheerful)
“Hi, Lord! It’s been a while since we talked! How are things up there?”
Silence reigned…
(Cleared his throat)
“Mm, can you hear me now? I just wanted to let you know I got saved!! That’s all. And that Daisy had her baby!”
And Quiet rampaged…
(Voice raised louder)
“Hey, can you hear me now?? I stopped doing all those bad, silly things too!”
Bleak Indifference loomed…
(More intense)
“Lord, can you hear me at all?? I need your help! I am in some trouble!!”
Mocking Stillness danced…
(Growing desperate)
“Why won’tchu say something God? If you’re disappointed in me or upset over something, at least say THAT!”
Cold Shoulder given…
“Oh, Father, please say something…ANYthing! I surrender! (Hopeful tone) So…can you hear me NOW? Just a TAD?!?”
Oh, the Silent Treatment!
(Hysterical)
“I did everything that’s right and expected! I TITHED, PRAYED, WITNESSED, TESTIFIED, BEEN KIND TUH PEOPLE…EVERY-THING!!! And you STILL won’t answer me. (Lost and pleading) I ASK YOU, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW, LORD? CAN YOU?!?!”
He broke down and dropped to his knees, crying.
And then he heard someone clearing their own throat. It is Him!
God said,”You’ve done everything right and expected, yes. That’s not the problem, though. You see, a conversation is usually two-sided…between two people, but THAT my friend, was a monologue – a spoken journal!” (Laughter) “I just couldn’t get a word in at all.”
The man, finally quiet, is really listening for the 1st time in a long time. God teasingly asks,”So…can you hear ME now? Can WE talk?”
(Good-natured, humorous tone)
“Is that all right with you?!”
The man dumbly nods assent.
(Light amusement)
“Hi, You…”
