Between hard place and a rock;
In a tight spot or in a jam;
A quarterback out of pocket,
defenseless and vulnerable;
Just invoke Vinny;
finds a receiver for a touchdown.
Who is Vinny?
Hindus call him Lord Vinayaka or Vigneswara;
Here in America we call him Vinny for short;
Hindus worship Vinny everyday;
Celebrate him on a particular day in early September;
Kick off season for Football in America;
For all we know Vinny loves to eat;
Rice dumplings stuffed with sweet sesame paste,
steamed to perfection his favorite dish;
Beheaded when young on a mistaken identity;
Received an elephant head instead;
But that’s all Hindu Mythology;
When invoke his name;
Vinny removes all hurdles including manmade;
Just who is Vinny?
A boy with an elephant head and pot belly;
A visual incarnation of our own inner strength.
When the quarterback of your favorite team looking for a receiver,
invoke the name Vinny loudly,
he will find a receiver for a touchdown.
Just reaching our inner strength;
Believing in ourselves;
We can win with Vinny.
PS:While I was living in Cleveland, when Vinny Testaverde was the quarterback for Cleveland Browns, he lost lot of games there. My real inspiration for above writing was not obviously Vinny Testaverde but Lord Ganesh or Vinayaka or Vigneswara whom we Hindus celebrated today.
