10 years ago, my mother met a great guy called Jeremy. He treated me like a princess, like I was his own daughter. I thought of him as my real dad, since I never saw my dad. We instantly bonded, and I knew my family would be safe with him.
They ended up getting married, buying a new house, and just starting fresh. It was a dream come true to see my mother so happy.
We did have our ups and downs but he was still a great guy.
We knew he had cancer before, but it was treatable. After that, it just kept coming back and hitting him harder. I was only young when it happened but I could still see it taking him down.
One day, the day I will always remember. My mother and I were at my sisters grade 12 graduation and she got a call from him. He basically said he is gonna be in hospital over Christmas.
She didn't take it too well, but she held on tight and watched her daughter graduate with a smile in her face.
The day went better then expected. Until..
We got home and she got a phone call from the doctor this time. He said that Jeremy only had a few days/weeks to live. I watched as my mother crumbled to the ground in tears. I instantly knew what was going on, but I couldn't handle seeing my mum like that. I ran inside crying, knowing that I'm about to loose one of the best things in my life.
I never got to see him, I never got to say goodbye. That's the one thing that breaks my heart,
Jeremy passed away a week later on the 6th of November 2009. That night someone truly amazing died, he changed my life in so many ways.
I will never forget you Jeremy. You are always in my heart <3
