Short story By: batteriesmall

“I got a problem, I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and i’ve been using it since 2010. My laptop’s battery is almost dead and not charging up. When i try to power on my laptop it was not powering up. So i removed the battery and plugged in the power cable, the blue light is on, but when I hit the power button to turn it on the laptop doesn’t do anything and doesn’t come on. What is the reason behind this? Though the battery is removed, it should power on with the charger cable but the same is not happening in my case? Help me out”

You may be encountering the same problem with the friend above. We are here to give you some suggestions to fix this as below:

Laptops fail to power-up for a variety of reasons, including battery failures, adapter cord shorts and dead outlets. In order to solve the problem you must have concrete analysis of specific issues according to their own situation and patience to find the problem. Some problems require easy, in-home fixes, some problems can be solved by the user but require extra supplies, and some problems are best left to the professionals.

1. Testing and Using the AC Power Adapter

Use one or both of the following quick tests if possible:

* Plug the AC adapter into a different Laptop and check if the computer works normally. If the Laptop operates normally, there is not a problem with the AC adapter.

* Use a different AC adapter with the same laptop and check if the computer works properly. If the laptop operates properly, there is a problem with the original AC adapter.

2. Check battery indicator light on your laptop. If it is on, make sure your laptop brightness settings is correct. Low brightness settings can make it seem that your laptop is power off. When the brightness is as low as possible, your screen will appear dark although the computer is turned on. Turning up the settings the problem might be resolved.

3. Consider how long you have had your laptop battery. According to BatteryUniversity.com andBatteriesmall.com.au, most laptop batteries will die completely after around 300 to 500 full charges. You might have to replace the battery itself.

4. If the ac adapter and battery is working fine. There may be some issues with Motherboard, CPU or Hard Drive:

Motherboard
A bad motherboard can cause a variety of problems, but one of the most noticeable is the laptop's inability to power on. Some components on the motherboard, such as the CPU, can be repaired.

CPU
The CPU is a specific part on the motherboard and it, too, can cause an HP laptop not to power on even if the rest of the motherboard is fine.

Hard Drive
A bad hard drive will not always cause an HP laptop to stop powering on, but in some cases it does, especially if the hard drive is significantly corrupted.

If you are unable to fix the hardware problems, you'd better go to computer repair shop and ask professionals for help.
