I wave goodbye, and whisper to the wind "I'll miss you." I stare at the bay in front of me, the sun shining over the water making it sparkle, and to think, you would be right with me. You'd have your arm around my shoulders sitting right here, whispering I love you in my ear.
I think of the days we were together, all days seem happy. The day when I first met you, the way your vibrant eyes stood out, the way your hair was moving in the wind, it was movie like.
I remember that first time we ever spoke, I bumped into you and my binder fell out of my arms, and papers flew everywhere. You let out a soft laugh with a smile on your lips and offered to help me gather my stuff. I tried to protest but you wouldn't hear it. Turns out, we had the same class, and we were both late, and the only seats left were side by side.
I remember our first date, it was cute, it was full of awkward movements, and conversations, but by the end of the night everything was going smoothly.
I remember our first kiss, I didn't know what to do when we arrived at the door, I didn't want to just say goodnight, I never wanted to leave your side, we just stared at each other for a while, but then before I realised anything, your lips were on mine, and they were gone just as fast, "goodnight." You said.
I remember graduation day, I was so proud of you, my genius, you graduated top of the class, I remember your speech, and you were right, we don't know what we want out of life until we get there.
I remember the dread of leaving you, two different universities, but you promised me, promised me that we'd make it work, it was what you wanted, what I wanted. It worked, we made it work.
I remember the night you asked me to marry you, it was after university, it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw. You took me to this very beach, and proposed. I couldn't hold the tears back, and I cried, I told you I would, I'd be crazy if I didn't.
I remember all the stress leading up to the wedding, I remember the wedding. Right here, right where I am sitting, the beach. It was a small but beautiful wedding. My favourite image of you from the wedding of you is your bright vibrant eyes, the brown hair on yet another windy day.
I remember the day I found out we were going to have a new addition to the family, another one of the happiest moments of my life, I remember meeting her for the first time, the tears were falling down your face when we finally met our little girl Mary Elizabeth.
I remember the day you told me you thought about joining the military, it was the biggest shock to my life, but you know what? I said okay, because you never held me back in what I wanted to do. I promised you I would always love you, and i would never leave our little girl. You smiled.
Now Mary Elizabeth and I stand at this beach, she's 16, and I'm 45. We both love you, we both miss you dearly. The strongest man of our life, she rarely knew you, but I told her so much of you that she's proud to call you her dad. I love you.
