Danielle felt the harsh look Latoya sent in her way and felt pain and anguish inside herself. Then anger, ‘Can’t Latoya take a joke?’ she thought miserably. She hated being embarrassed in front of Jody. Jody was acting very smug, like she and Latoya were best friends. As if she knew, Latoya better than Danielle did or ever could. Danielle almost snorted. ‘Jody should get a grip and wipe that grin off her face.’ Danielle scowled.
Though Danielle did not notice, Jody looked almost…pleased that her and Latoya had fallen out. It was Rachel who noticed this and she shook the thought out of her head. She knew Danielle would come whining at her later, and she mentally prepared herself for it. She could not stand a sad Danielle; it was like a weeping puppy. You HAD to do something! Therefore, inside the quietness of her brain, she made a list of jokes to amuse Danielle. There was nothing sweeter, more rewarding, than the sound of Danielle’s twinkling, fairy-tale-like laugh, which brought uncontrollable warmth to Rachel’s heart. ‘No, no. Jody would not be happy Latoya and Danielle had fallen out. She’s much too nice,’ Rachel consoled herself.
‘Jeez, Danielle is so annoying. I can’t believe Latoya didn’t notice this before now! Oh my gosh, the Advanced Placement nerds are stupider than they act, which is very superior, by the way. It is time Latoya got sick of Danielle they were always together. Like babies. In addition, Danielle is so desperate for a boyfriend, it is pathetic and everyone can see it! I bet on my life Charlie knows. Only a blind person couldn’t see that!’ silently cursed Jody to herself.
“Oh, hi, Rachel!” she chirped cheerfully, and all doubt of Jody was washed out of Rachel’s mind immediately. Lovely Jody, happy to see her friend upset? Yeah, right! No, Rachel must have just imagined it out of spite. She thought everyone had a bad side, and now she realised she was wrong. Blinded by Jody’s halo, she did not notice her devil horns, hidden by Jody’s thick masses of rich, mahogany brown hair.
“Hi, Jody!” she replied brightly, slightly ashamed of her empty accusations and glad she had not voiced them. Jody approached Latoya after telling Danielle she would “go and talk to her,” and “help sort things out”. Danielle was a bit unsure, but grateful for Jody’s concern, she agreed, hungry for Latoya’s friendship. Jody had stopped Danielle sitting next to Latoya, planting Danielle next to herself and saying, “If she wants to talk to you, she will. Come on, it is obvious she’s mad at you. You’re annoying her. Leave her be. Sit down and sit still!” This confused Danielle a bit. Wasn’t it better to sort out fights immediately; to stop them growing worse? Nonetheless, still full of doubt, she sat, as instructed, next to Jody. Missing Latoya with her heart and mind.
“Hi, Latoya! How’s it going?” Rachel wasn’t usually friendly to Latoya, but she had to help Danielle, and was in a particularly good mood.
“Ek is baie, baie, baie vies met Danielle! Sy is nie my vriende nie!” grumbled Latoya is bad Afrikaans. Rachel worked it out in her head. Latoya had said, “I am very, very, very furious with Danielle! She is not my friend!” ‘Jeez, a little harsh!’ Rachel thought as Latoya mumbled and stomped childishly away.
Danielle had seen the short exchange and soon became extremely pissed at Latoya.
‘Oh, please. She probably has no other friends but me, so now I stop talking to her and she hangs out with people she doesn’t even like! Pathetic,’ Danielle thought cuttingly. ‘And does she have to follow me? Sure, Taylor and Emily are her friends too, but I was here first!’ Danielle whinnied internally. She sighed, getting up and going off into a corner of the hall they were in. She tried to eavesdrop of Jody and Latoya’s conversation, but Jody pushed her away.
Afterwards, when asked for a report of the proceedings by Danielle, Jody answered, “oh, she just said you were annoying. And that was it,”
‘Hmmm, it sounds rather like what Jody thinks, rather than what Latoya thinks,’ Danielle wondered lightly. Focusing on the bigger picture, she frowned. Whom was she going to partner up with for the WSPS Got Talent competition now? Luckily, Rochelle asked Danielle, and Danielle gratefully accepted out of needing, more than wanting, Rochelle for a partner. She grinned ruefully. Whom was Latoya going to go with now? Fed up with apologizing fruitlessly to Latoya, Danielle set about annoying Latoya. She spoke animatedly with Latoya’s enemies (many of which she has) and made a blatant point of ignoring Latoya. That was very noticeable, as Latoya and she usually act as if they are joined at the hip, always together, partnered or competing with or against one another. Now they weren’t speaking? It was obvious they had fallen out and many asked-out of curiosity rather than concern-why, but Danielle brushed them aside rudely and ignored their questions, as did Latoya. Latoya appeared to be coming about of her hump as the day drew to a close, but Danielle wasn’t having any of it. You do not treat her like crap for three hours then get all 'happy do dah' the next. No, Danielle pursed her lips and waltzed away.
She takes shit from no one.
And that’s a fact.
