"Sweetie. There is some mail for you." My husband said coming into our bedroom. He handed me a letter. It had our address along with 'Brantford High' scrolled across the front of the envelope. I stuck my finger into the top of the paper pocket and ripped across. I pulled out a thick piece of hard stock that was folded over. I opened it and read it to myself.
"Oh gosh." I wasn't expecting this.
"What is it honey? It looks like an invitation." I handed to invite to him.
"Oh, its for your high school reunion. You want to go?" He asked plopping the infamous piece of paper on the bed.
" I don't know." I said closing my eyes and watching the flash backs flip around my brain.

It was New Years eve in the year 1999. I had invited my best friend Tiffany over for a sleep over at my house. We thought we were so cool having a sleep over and waking up on the morning of 2000. We had started to play a game of good of fashioned Truth Or Dare.
"Ok its your turn Cindy. Truth or dare?" We were seated cross legged on my bedroom floor, lights out, holding flashlights. Every time we heard an owl hoot or a cricket chirp, we would both drag the luminescent lights across my bedroom walls trying to catch whatever monster was lurking about.
"Um, I guess truth." I remember being scared to do a dare. I was so shy back then.
"Ok smarty pants, who do you like? Celebrities are not allowed." She said.
"Luke." I replied.
"Which one?"
"Skywalker." I said smirking.
"Ha ha. No seriously. Which one?" She said sarcastically.
"Stevens."
"Ooooooo. He is kind of cute." She proceeded to tease me.
"Shut up. I think I might love him. He is so good looking, just like Heath Ledger in the movie '10 Things I Hate About You'.
"Ew Heath Ledger, really? I am more of a Johnny Depp fan myself." She said making a face. I stuck out my tong.
"Like in 'Sleepy Hallow'?" We both laughed. When my next turn rolled around, I got up the courage to ask for a dare.
"Ok, I think that you should call Luke and tell him how you feel." She said smiling.
"No way Tiff. Never ever. Besides, we don't even have his phone number." She went over to her purse and pulled out a slip of paper. She through it to me.
"What's this?" I asked inspecting the line of numbers.
"Luke's number." She smiled handing me the phone.
"No Tiff, I am too shy."
"Come on. Pretty please." She wined. I grabbed the phone.
"You are officially the best." She said clapping her hands. I dialed the numbers and waited. I could here the phone ring on and on. I actually thought that I would get away with leaving a quick message on the answering machine or something. Like that would happen. Just my luck, someone picked it up.
"Hello." I boy on the other line asked. I could here music in the background and people yelling over it. He must have been having a party.
"Hi is this Luke?" I asked into the phone.
"Yeah, who is this?" He replied. So I told him...everything. I was glad he remembered me from math class, otherwise that would have been embarrassing...well even more so that it was already. All he did was laugh after I told him it was a dare compliments of Tiffany and said that it was cool. He said he would see me tomorrow. I thought it was golden, he was definitely going to ask me out now. Those were the good old days. Too bad they didn't last.
That's when another memory came to mind. I wasn't another happy one eather. It was the night of the prom at someone's after party. It was so long ago I can't even remember who hosted it. I remember that Tiffany and I both made a pack that we would go to prom together even if one of us got asked to go with someone. Tiffany, being popular and very pretty of course was asked many times. She was a good friend though and still went with me. That would have been the best night of my life aside from my wedding. We arrived at the party together but then became separated. I went looking for her about an hour into the party. She was the one that drove us here, and I needed to get home soon. I asked a couple of people if they had seen her, and they told me to look up stairs. I walked up the steps and called her name. I guess she didn't hear me. I opened a closet door and there stood Tiffany, lip locking with my one true love, Luke. I was so mad. I screamed her name and pulled her away. She shook a bit looking at me.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" I yelled.
"Wha..what do you mean? The question is what are YOU doing?" I stuttered. She was drunk.
"I was stopping you from kissing the love of my life!" I said. By this time, Luke has gone.
"The love of your life? Well aren't you a drama queen. He asked me to the prom." She said slowly sitting down onto the floor.
"Your lying! Your drunk for gods sakes. I'm taking you home." I grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the house towards her car.
"Let go of me! I can drive myself home!"
"No you can't Tiff! Now give me the keys."
"I don't think so Cind. We are totally not friends anymore."
"Oh that ship has sailed!" I walked away. I just left her there. I didn't care how I or she got home that night.

"Hey, you ok?" I could hear my husband ask me, kissing my cheek.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I said drowsily.
"You drifted off."
"For how long?"
"Oh only for about an hour or so. I guess you took that 'sleep on it' concept a little too literal." He winked at me.
"Hardy har har. I guess I did." I stroked that side of his face.
"So what do you think about it Love? You don't have to go if you don't want to. I could come with you if you want." He offered.
"Don't you have a work dinner that you have to go to that night?"
"I can always reschedule. I love you." He said smiling.
"I love you to. Don't worry about it. I wouldn't want to make you do that to your boss. I just don't know if I want to go. What if I see Tiffany?" I said.
"Is this what it is about? Tiffany? Oh honey. She may not even be there. Its been ten years since you have seen her, maybe it would be nice to see her again."
"I don't know. I don't really feel anger towards her anymore, I just don't know what I would say."
"Well she did bring you and I together, did she not?" He smiled grabbing my hand.
"Yes, I guess she did." I thought about how after she went back into the party, I sat down on the curb and started to cry. That is when another boy came up behind me and asked if I was ok. The boy became my husband.
"I remember dancing the night away to our song, 'Believe' by Cher."
"Yes I also remember you driving me home and getting interrogated by my father." We both laughed.
"Look love, I think you should go. You might even have a little fun for a change. What do you say?" I sighed.
"Ok."
I stood outside of the old school's gym doors for a good ten minutes. I was starting to have second thoughts about going in.
"Maybe I should just leave." I opened the door anyway, trying to face my fears. How bad could it be right? I mean, I can always leave if it doesn't go well. I walked into the gym and she was the very first person I saw. She didn't say anything. She just smiled that big smile that she always had, walked up to me, and gave me a big hug. That is when I knew that everything was going to be alright now that I had my best friend back.

The End.
