The air is sweet and crisp. The rolling pasture and drifting clouds flout slowly through the soft blue sky. He lay in the amongst the tall blades of soft grass that surrounds him as he looks up to the cotton like majesties that float before him, reaching out once as if to touch, but remembers what he has learned and pulls back. Warm wisps of spring scent comfort him as he lay deeper into the earth. And memories drift back to him. A gentle hand is placed on his shoulder and his fathers warm eyes greet him when he turns. A salt rain falls from his eyes as his father laughs and tussles the boys hair. From the silence and bernese pup bounds out from the shadows of the clouds, and takes no time in running up to lick the tears from his face. Together the three laugh and rejoice as they run through the fields, tackleing each other into the dusty soil. After romping around for a good while they collapse under the shade of a peach tree. The pup pants and allows the boy to pet his belly and the father presents him with a ripe fresh picked peach. He takes a generous bite and the sweet juice fills his mouth with a nostalgic taste and dribbles down his chin. His father lets out another chuckle and pulls the boy closer to him. His scent... the beat of his heart rings through the boys ears, he feels so safe... His father leans over to whisper into his ear,..."I lo.." without warning the beutiful sunset turns to a dark, cold fog. The boy trys to get up to examine the change but finds he can no longer move. And his body is pressed stiffly on the hard ground. His fathers expression turns fearful as he and the pup find themselves pulled into the darkness behind them. The boy wants to scream, he wants to call out to them, to save them. But all he can do is watch in horror as they fight to be freed from they're captor. The fathor screams somthing to the boy but he can no longer hear. And as they disapear into the dark a bright light forms around him. He blinks at the harsh light and he begins to make out a sound. It starts out soft, but becomes louder as the light around him get brighter. And suddenly he can make out words. "Get up.." "Get up!.." It echos through the blank nothing around him. A tiny circle apears in frount of him. He looks closer and can make out a room of some sort, and a figure standing in frount of it. " GET UP!" the voice booms through the nothing, the boy flinches at the pain from hism ears and he is then pulled into the circle. Where he opens his eyes to a rough looking woman who has frount of his shirt clenched in her fist. "Bout time you came to, now get your ass up and clean up this mess." them woman spat. There was a strong scent of alcohaul and fecies. The boy turned and noticed bottles scatted all over the room, and broken shards laying around him and under his back. A sharp pain corassed his cheek and he quickly turned back to the woman who he now remembered. "M-mom?" he stutterd still a bit un sure of were he was. "Who else would it be moron?", "Now get up before I bring out my bat and make you see the lord." with that she let the boy fall numbly back onto the ground. In a horse voice he slightly cried out to the pain. And bit his lip to keep from the flow of tears. He heard the slam of a door, and found himself alone in the strange place. He slowly lifted himself up. Carful not to cause further harm to his soare and bleeding back. He sat up awkwardly and alowed his eyes to drift around the room. His vision was foggy but he could make out most of what was around him. There were no windows. an old wooden door stood behind him, along with the bottles that lay before him. A scratched up spotted green sofa lay upside down in the corner. From that the only thought that crossed his mind was, "where am I going to sleep?" He heard the faint crash of dishes and an assortment of curse words come from somwhere beyond the door. The boy slowly raised himself from the ground, and stumbled back into the wall. He held himself steady from the pain that throbed through his body. He looked to wall and noticed writeing scetched into the tacky wall paper. He squints and trys to make out the small messy lettering. J-o-n-a-h "is that my name?" the boy thought for a moment....yes... he rememberd. His memories began to surface and he could see clear images in his mind. The appartment, the cats, his mothers drunk rambleing,....the abuse. He could see all of it. He looked to the other side of the wall and saw dents and scratchs, blood stains coverd the flowery wall paper. He looked back to his name and saw that it had been written more than once. Many times along the rim of the wall. Another memory came back to him. He saw all the times he had scetched the letters on the wall, and realized why he had done it. And in the back of his mind he heard his father say,"In life, you may forget a lot, after time it all fades, but hold on to your name boy, or you'll lose your grip on life." The boy placed his hand in his back pocket and reached for a screw that was nestled there. He quickly started to scetch the letters again while saying them. "J...O...N...A...." The door erupted open and his mother charged through it carrying a large peice of jaggd wood. The boy turned stunned only letting out a small,"Mom?" before she swung the huge peice around, and the boy fell back to the feilds. Where his father stood waiting at the other side of a cool stream. The pup playfully barked calling to the boy. Behind them a big glowing light touched the boys face. "Jump son." His father said extending out a hand. "Jump..." A smile bigger than any other formed on his face and the boy jumped into his fathers arms, the light embraced them and they rejoyeced once more to run through the feilds, for the rest of etternety.
