Every cloud has a silver lining

This is the end of it all. Every dream that encompassed his mind shattered with the last whistle. Even his utter perseverance and charismatic skills couldn't save the match. Laughter of frustration came out of his dry mouth. Thoughts of being tagged as a loser made him shiver. Was it a reverie? No it wasn't. He could envision wild celebrations of the rivals. Vision got blurred and it was getting hard for him to resist tears.

He emulated to remain indifferent, but the effort was futile. Sacrifices made for this event seemed to creep in his mind hastily. He had defied the expectations of his parents with the self-assurance that the tournament could change their entire lives. Ten thousands prize money meant a lot to the likes of Ricky. He talked in silence and remained in solitude for the last couple of months. No, he didn't even feel culpable for not going to his father's grocery shop even at the time of festivals. Image of Rose's gloomy face resurfaced in his thoughts and her words reverberated in his ears. Her ardent appeal to stop playing for the club and concentrate in the family business couldn't alter his ambition. This match could have been the turning point in both of their lives. Through this single event he could have mustered the courage to ask her parents for their consent in their marriage.

Moist grass underneath his body was getting colder. Ricky stood up with a heavy heart. Though winter was near, it was drizzling. Amid the crowd of unknown faces he made his way. He noticed some hands waiving towards him. Mother and father were standing outside the fence with radiant smiles. And, he could even see Rose. Before he could utter a single word, his father hugged him. 'You have done it. They have selected you in the national team', were the words from his father that he can only hear. Rose smiled and handed him the envelope that enclosed the final verdict. Clouds darkened and it started to downpour. But, a new brightness caressed Ricky.

Never lose hope. Chase your dreams till they become reality!
