What You Once Were

Poetry By: 4themoonshot

A poem I wrote, even though I don't write poetry due to my low proficiency, for my brother.

What You Once Were

You used to be my best friend,

Holding my hand and learning the world,

But you seem to have lost your way,

Your path having too many a bend.

You used to be a good man in the storm,

Your courage and strength keeping me steady,

But you have let the world creep into your mind,

Breaking and ruining your beautiful form.

It seemed that we would be friends forever,

Playing all our favorite games,

Always protecting me from the bigger boys,

But that's what you once were.

Now you are lost in a sea of darkness,

Shutting me out of your head,

Sinking further and further into your pain,

Refusing my help to fight this.

I understand that you want to be free to roam,

Free to explore what the world has to offer,

Good, bad, and everything in between,

But all I ask is that you come home.

It seemed that we would be friends forever,

Your spirit pushing me through the toughest battles,

Celebrating at the finish line of life,

But that's what you once were.

And what you once were,

No longer seems to be there.
