Always just out of reach

How could one laying in the deep, dank cave of I find motivation to seek the sky through the immense, impermeable layer of rock that makes one meek by denying him the right to fly? How could one find his way out, banished to a blackness so bereft of light that his eyes have lost their clout and his feet have long since died? Every exit is just another path, another route on the endless journey to find that which can't be found: the sky.
