~

Growin' up you never know

Which way to turn, which road to take.

What on earth had we been thinkin'

Before some choices we would make?

Years grew on, some have scattered,

Some of us held on,

Wonderin' what does really matter

And tryin' to stay strong.

Thirty years now, some have died,

And for others we've surely cried.

What makes a friendship last so long?

What power holds it up so long?

Thirty years from now I pray

We'll still be looking back to say:

We lived, we loved, we learned, we played.

We danced, matured, and sometimes strayed.

But all in all God kept us safe

Through His most amazing grace.

Each night I pray before I sleep,

I thank Him for a friend to keep.

thanks, so many can relate I find out, we've all had friends we've cried for and those that have strayed, some come back
and others you may never see again. I'm now 48 and proud to still have a couple friends I had as a teenager---better yet, my mom still has close friends since she was 12, and she's now 76. wow---so glad you enjoyed

True friends are so hard to find and rarer to have.If you are blessed just to hold on to one these days you are doing something.I love this write.

thankyou and it's so true, especially from where i come from, most of those we knew are either dead or still getting high. it's sad so I am so greatful for the ones I still have.
thankyou so much for your comment,--katie

Air, you say in your autobiography, that 'you are what you see'. There is some truth in this. I think that is why it is important to keep friends who nourish your soul. Your poem reflects the role of friends in your own life and the hope that they will continue to be important as the years pass. Well done.

yes, to keep friends that norish your soul. I am greatful for the ones that are still here and now that I have been on the 'right path' with norishment comming from within I hope this will follow from without. thankyou very much for taking the time to read Annie, I haven't taken the time to read novels and stories although I should. (it's that sitting still for long periods) (smile) I will have to take time to read one of your stories soon--God bless you, katie

What a wonderful testament to friendship. It must have meant so much to her for you to take the time to let her know.

Yes I believe it did. but more so for me, she was the only friend that i was able to stay in touch with over some pretty bad years. since I've been sober I have gotten back in touch with a few more friends. it's sad that people fall away from each other but beautiful when they can meet again :) thanks Ivey for all the comments, I truly appreciate the time you have taken and the kindness. Thankyou Jerry (smile) nice of you to take the time. yes it's not that I don't have anything to post it's just that there is so much going on with both work and christmas. I am leaving saturday for 5 or 6 days, and have to have alot ready for taking with and for leaving here since my x husband will be taking care of my cats (thank goodness) or I wouldn't be able to go for more that a couple days. I have written 2 new childrens storys for some friends in the city and have made little books. I am excited to see if they like them. maybe I'll share them with you. I'll send an email ok?
I have been making lot's of beeded crafts for family and friends. I enjoy that :) I hope your christmas is grand.

Hi, Katie. I've been browsing around some older stuff and stumbled upon this.... Wow. Just wow. Beautiful words. I do have one friend, one true friend, from high school. We've kinda gone our seperate ways, but we do try to keep in touch. She will always be my best friend, no matter how many miles between us. A very lovely poem.

Oh, ya, isn't it special? to have them in your life for all these years, and years yet to come?
for me the teenage years are the ones I treasured so dear, and to hold those friends still in my heart makes it so special when I can still see them.
Thanks MA! katie

But all in all God kept us safe

We lived, we loved, we learned, we played.

We danced, matured, and sometimes strayed.

Oh-No look what all this conversing is doing to me LOLOLOLOL!!! silly! just plain silly! ^_^
Thankyou so much Pratibha you have brought happiness to my day. :D

I must say I really like this one! Lots of great lines in it..can't pick a fave. Thats the thing I miss most about high school..most of my friends all went in different directions to start their new lifes..but a few I have managed to keep our friendship alive and still get to see =) Great job on this poem!

yup, and to hang on to them is great ^_^
there were so many of us back then and now
we are finding our way back to each other it seems.
just like the rain that falls and gets lost only to come together again in the sea ^_^
well, yes freindship is something else aint it though?
you come together for reasons other than simple attraction; there is a power that holds freinships and binds them.
I think it is because we were meant to be here together it is beyond our choice lol ^_^

i wish i could keep reading ur posts again and again and each time, i get to learn something new...something revealing...from ur kind soul

haha, well I think you are up late again and need to go to sleep (wink, wink) lol.
its so nice to you, both you and Urja have come back on the same night...its wonderful Prati. It has been very, very slow, and very quiet. I have been quiet; in reflection I guess. I am a little lonesome lately or scared maybe and so it is so good to see you guys, I love you both bunches :)

Beautiful poem, it does make us wonder how friendships do hold up so long. For me it also made me realize that I assume my friends will be with me forever, perhaps because the thought of them leaving is too difficult to digest. I think you did a wonderful job and I'm glad I got to read it, thanks.

Thankyou Autumn, its a secure feeling to believe your friends will always be connected to you. Its such a wonderful time if you have not seen each other for years and the bond is ever still there.
