BETH

transition plucks away my eyes,

willing not to shed disguise.

beyond the blue, beyond the green,

further than I've ever been,

naught is there that I can see,

time, oh time, please carry me.

~

have I not the time to cry?

I ask the Lord: 'why, oh why?'

or have the tears been shed in vain?

upon the cheeks to leave their stain?

~

where, in all the wonderment,

have all the cherished words been sent?

!

beyond the blue, beyond the green,

further than I've ever been,

naught is there that I can see,

time oh time please comfort me.

~

sounding to the depths within,

deep inside where it is dim,

I cry the whispers from my chest,

transition sheds its ugly dress.

*

up into the time without

quiet now no need to shout,

bare with Him a sudden chill,

inner keys should play at will.

*

melt into the eye within,

shanti, shanti, shanti, Amen

yes I think it might help her some, at least I hope it does.
when I write for someone else it comes as it does and I don't question. yes she is such a good person and tries so hard, she loves to help others, although I believe she tries to hard sometimes to change things on her own end, and needs to be more patient and accepting, though who am i to say?

aww verynice and tuching iloved it

OOhhhh, Katie. This is ever-so breathtaking. I have chills up my spine reading this. Okay, so the musician in me heard an acoustic guitar, maybe a little bass, and something almost sorrowful, like an oboe or clarinet. "time oh time please comfort me" Wow. I really love that line. Because that is the one true thing that can comfort us and change us: time.

ah yes, so well put, time; what a strange and powerful thing.
funny how it is and it is not so to speak, I mean it exists here but not there lol, ok you know what I mean, only in certain rhealms.
I jsut love the way you put music to the poetry, you give it an ambiance :D
I kinda like the first line about time taht says 'please carry me' cause to me it sounds as though time can carry a person above the fragments of thought that is stagnant or stuck in the stituation that one can not come to terms with at the time. hmmm so much to ponder....
thanks hun, hope your weather is good there... here it is
Fantastical!!!!!!!!! lol.
be well ^_^ ~katie

Sansara-halahala-moha-santyai
To pacify loss of consciousness from the poison of existence

ah, oh boy, talk hindu and sanscrit to me all day long any day of the week, lol. yes it is me all the way through and through....don't know I ahve such longing for the laguage ever sinse I learned of it in 2004, probably because I read of the profound healing effects it has. ah, it is a much more pure language built with much higher thought concepts than anything here.
mmmmmm yes, 'to pacify loss of consciousness from the poison of existence-----'Sansara-halahala-moha-santyai' ah, a breath of fresh air...you see the elongated vowels? this has alot to do with the begining of sound and the healing efects.
and then in the mantras they have used for thousands of years there, their gurus ans sages have built into them deep, deep wisdom that is absorbed weather one understands the mantra or not. :) Ok that's enough chit chat for now.

thankyou, thankyou sweetie :) sensual rain (cause that's who you are) and warm sunshine ^_^

And then I thought of the ballad "beth" by KISS.
Beth I hear your calling and I hope you'll be alright, me and the boys will be playing all night....ha! A very drunk boy serenaded me with that when I was 16. Flippin' 20 yrs ago.

YES! I remember and can here it right NOW ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
I love, love , love that songggggggggggggggggg.

hahahahahahahahahahaha 16? hmmmmmm, let's see for me that would ahve been, around 1675 hahahaahhhahahahaha
haha yes I would ahve been 16 actually in 1975, and oh were the 70's fun. yes, I too was in love at age 16 but sadly I was never seranaded LOLOLOL.
I did see KISS with this boy though live in concert in 1976.
so hahaha you may ahve been seranaded but I saw them in person! lol.... just teasing, seranaded would ahve been better, I actually did not enjoy really loud concerts, I hung around with loud people but as for concerts they never really impressed me so therefore back in those days i only enjoyed them if I were very, very high (shhhh don't tell no-one) lolololol
stay sweet, be good, keep well ~katie

Wow Katie! This is beautiful!!!

I loved how you treated the concept of time...

"time oh time please comfort me"

Yes, give each moment a chance to comfort and uplift you. Great thoughts.

Also i am very pleased to find someone who is so much interested in Hindu mysticism. I've observed that Western world has interpreted some tough nuances of our inherited knowledge... even those things that escaped our own attention.

Its the age of convergence of civilizations.

Thanks for posting this thought provoking and comforting poem.

oh ah yes " The Prayer By the River" I read you last night.
wonderful, wonderful inspiring read.

yes the western world has been absorbing eastern knowledge for some time now, Paramhansa came here in the 50's, also Swami Rama and a number of others. Books over here written about the Himalayas, the great masters etc etc have had westerners scampering off to india for some years now lol.
yes, they wish to be involked by a magical word, mantra or any suugestion that might bring spiritual enlightening.
hmmm sounds funny but I would do the same if I had the money to go lol ^_^ I do my readings continuously so that I feel the essence of the teachings inside of me. I So love the beautiful mantras, I listen to them all the time. I like Deva Premal her voice is amazing..

Thankyou, thankyou for your wonderful comment
I so glad you like it.. and I am aslo very glad to meet you
welcome here, and I will surely read you again ~katie

You have such a gift, I felt the poem lifting me away. What talent you have. God gave you that precious gift.

:) oh Susan, thankyou so much. I think more of it being a connection than a gift. I don't think I deserve a gift anymore than the next, just connecting that's all :)
ah, thankyou so much for your praise, makes me sooooooo good!!! ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
~katie

Really beautiful Katie. I'll tell you the part that intrigued me the most was "beyond the blue, beyond the green". At first I thought it was referring to two people and their connection, but than I started wondering if it referes to distance. Are either one correct? Lol? Regardless, the poem is wonderful and especially since you wrote it for your good friend. I'm sure she loved it. How could she not?

Posted: Jul 14, 2008

Author Comment:

ah yes distance indeed! ^_^
actually beyond where a person is seeing at this moment in time. I think that when we are going through transition of heart ache and what not, we are often unable to be patient and trust in God, we want so much to understand and do something, and sadly there is not a thing we can do, we can only BE, you see? ^_^ hmmmm, but you know how it is, the learning comes later, after the experience has done what it needs to do. It is sad that we must at times go through pain in order to become. but we are here for each and that is wonderful. thankyou so much, I truly appreciate the wonderful comment,,, God Bless, and be well
~katie

Oh dear Katie, these words are breathtaking. Reaching out, then pulling back, questioning, then reaching out again. The wondering, and then the knowing. And then peace.

I found this exquisite. Sheryl

^_^ 'and then the knowing' yes ^_^ we have to wait for the knowing. this very special person is really going through a time in her life where you could say we get stuck in tunnel vision, because we can not see out of what is going on you knwo what I mean? the emotional energy surrounding the situation will not allow for it. and although it just may be the most emotional experience of life there in time will also be the most powerfully spiritually involked experience too. hmmm I hope she is well.....
thankyou Sheryl, for the wonderful comment
~katie

a lovely, straight-from-the-heart, piece, Katie! There is a gentleness about it that's kind of dreamy... if that makes any sense to you at all!! So nice to see Sheryl and Buttercup reading and commenting on your work as they gather more inspiration!!

LOL!!!

not much time to read on-line today so I'm downloading poems to browse through on the weekend - yours is one of!

lololol,, oh Anna, I pray you do not get burnt out. we can not afford to lose you, you are too good...forget about mine for now... love, love,, and be well ~katie

Couldn't forget yours Katie - it spoke to me - and always the procrastinator I found something more important to do in my work day (LOL our business is at home so easier for me than some to delegate some "me" time - though I seem to do that more frequently - sometimes with some guilt - with booksie on my agenda!)
So here goes!!!!
I was a late reader to this poem but very glad to find it. There is a serene, alluring beauty about it and I sense “Beth” has a very warm and caring friend in you. Your beautiful nature shines through. I loved the line “beyond the blue, beyond the green” – I guess I have a “penchant” for looking beyond – there is a feel of a change happening in the first four lines that is almost life shattering – “further than I’ve ever been”. Then the passionate prayer “time, oh time, please carry me”, trusting and being patient in the “goodness” of the Lord who allows healing in time to “carry” your friend through the evolution if you will of her world.
Your next stanza intensifies your friend’s dilemma and her questions to God, there is hesitation, struggle, a “why me?” complexion. Your repetition of the “beyond the blue, beyond the green” line is poignant – gave me as the reader a feeling of almost unbearable struggle but of undying hope and faith as well.
And then we see the trust in God and time begins to pay off – “transition sheds its ugly dress”, “quiet now no need to shout” – things are calming down, life and hope is emerging after the transition.
I am not aware of the Hindu “language” although the “shanti, shanti” had a very soothing effect on me at the conclusion of the poem. (something for me to explore)
I agree with someone above who said this poem was very musical, a ballad like feel. I was overwhelmed with the beauty and love and hope of the message, and the gentleness and warmth of the author. It touched me very much. In my life I have had such a transition and I regret I didn’t handle it very well, so your poem has armed me for when another comes my way.
Thank you Katie.

Oh, Anna WoW! yes, I so wish for her to look beyond, it seems as though she is very stuck. when you say you didn't handle yours very well, it is all of us who can not see (inside the storm) in order to handle it, though I think it is those shattering experiences that make us full so to speak, full of the undying knowledge, but during the experience we are caught inside of the experience and until we are disconnected from it,, well you know...hmm it sounds so sad 'disconnected from it' as though something has to die,,,but that's not what I intended, although it does happen that way, it doesn't have to.... hmm at any rate yes I too loved that line about time carrying you, yes I think it speaks volumes,, its funny Anna, when I ask for guidance to write something special for someone certain words or phrases just come and I feel they fit but don't always know their full meanings. but isn't it jsut wonderful how some things just hit you like that? even though the full meaning isn't there it touches you down deep none the less ^_^ ^_^
with Beth, I get the feeling that she countlessly and continuously is trying to fix the edges, the parameters, or the external, all but are simply forms that can only be rebuilt again and again by God...hmmm, don't know if I'm making sense anymore hahahahahah, ok,,, Anna I can't thankyou enough for such a wonderful comment, it is Such a pleasure :D promise you won't get too overwhelmed by everything here at booksie...sunshine smiles and love ~katie

Katie, I love your poems because they bring a sense of calm to the mind. Somehow this poem made me feel as if it was written for a person who was dying (I don't think you meant it that way, but that's the sense I keep getting every time I read this). It felt as if you could not let go initially (and neither could she) and then you tried relaxing the mind consciously, letting it free-floating and soaring high, and then the bonds were no longer there and the transit was not difficult anymore. It sounded almost like going towards attaining nirvana.

On a lighter note - if you ever want to travel to the Himalayas, I would be happy to accompany you there. I have wanted to explore some of those place myself, and would love to have you with me.

Urja ^_^ Urja, Urja, I would fly there in a moment and go with you if I had the money, but alas I will have to learn to astral travel instead lololol. :D

hmmm, yes, I suppose this would have a deying quality because it is the lower mind that I wish she could let go of.
and yes I do think that in the begining of the poem I may have expresses more of my own thoughts and so had to let go of them in order to feel.

a thought; maybe you could send me a rock from the grounds there? :) I know it sounds weird but I began feeling vibrations through rocks a few years ago, and I believe that having them from different parts of the world would be awesome, it would be like you were there in a sense.
well, I don't know how close you are to the Himalayas, but to tell the truth just about any rock at allfrom India would make me happy :D LOL, ya I'm silly huh?

well everyone seems to have said so much already. I love this poem. its wonderfully written, and the rhymes are just perfect. The poem is like a prayer to the safe return of a friend
