The Lonesome Dove Never Speaks

In the light of future promises

there are those not spoken

only the lonesome dove can tell you

Once I cried

I had become the contender

of speechless days

in fits of haze

of bitter ways.

And I did not surrender

I cried again

for fights not won

for days of fun

and viscous cycles

left undone

and still,

I did not surrender

I cried for the sake of crying alone

I had not a home

not a dime to spare

red wine in my hair

and I did not care

I beat the days of long ago

from where I cried so all alone

sighting the corpses among the best

round and 'round test by test

still not seeing

the utter despair

lingering close was murmuring air

and I, I sank in slumber....

for I could not surrender

Though when I woke

that's IF I woke?

cause some might say

"'tis just a joke"

there never was

or so they'll say

for lack of just

a better day.

and if the lonesome dove can tell you

he never speaks
