The Window-Washer

Hope, is what i am for this man
Money, is what he wants from me.
Power, is what i have over him.
He used to knit his wife's clothes.
Now he just washes stranger's windows.
Pennies, is what he asks.
Pennies.
That's what he is worth now.
The smile on his face shows exhaustion.
The calluses on his hands and the socks on his feet, show that he is the woman to the others of his kind.
I try to help him, but i only think of myself.
I want to help, but i know that i can't.
Pennies, is what he asks.
Pennies.
How can i be of assistance, when God himself has forsaken him?
My pennies, he wants.
Not for him though.
He has a family, you see. A family of slaves.
And all that freedom he has, is nothing, without my pennies.
Oh window-washer.
I wish you well.
I really do.
