I just saw you a few days ago, we sat together. It was your birthday
You told me a great story about an author of cowboy books
I was always amazed by your knowledge
We said goodbye like we always did
I can still feel you as if my arms were still wrapped around you
If only I would have known it would be the last time, I would have held you much longer
I would have told you how much you meant to me. We all would have
You were so strong, so proud, and so sweet
You were such a big part of this family
Such a big part of so many lives
And to humble to notice
I loved having your attention
Even when I was a teen and you would just give me that look
That look that said “ you have so much to learn… But you’ll get it “
You never criticized me even when it was due
It meant so much to me when you told me you were proud of me
I sit here today remembering… everything
Even that dreadful phone call
It was so sudden…
You weren’t supposed to go… Not you
You were to strong, to important
So now tears fall and sorrow fills our days
As we pick up the pieces of our shattered hearts
But we can take comfort in knowing that you are with an old friend
And we will all once again wrap our arms around you and sit together
