By the River

Poem By: Alice Oiseau
Poetry

By the river she promises to wait for his return.

The poem doesn't mention at all the story behind the two lovers, so I'm going to tell you here. The man was drafted in the war, (current one we are fighting) and his liver, the lady waits for him to come home by the place where they first met and fell in love. View table of contents...

By the River

By the river she lays,
By the river all the days,
Memories in the river pass by,
And when she sees him staring back at her, she cries
Rolling her head back to see the storm,
Come rain and recreate those moments when they were born,
Water droplets fall to the ground,
These shackles that hold her are no longer bound,

By the river she dreams,
By the river the sun no longer beams,
Raindrops tumble and create a symphony,
If he had not gone, where would they be?
Staring into the river she begins to see,
A little girl and boy looking back at her,
Summer nights spent by the river,
Summer nights when he gave her a locket of silver,

By the river she rests drenched in rain,
By the river she feels pain,
Here is where they used to prance,
Here is where he took her hand in their first dance,
With him not far,
She wishes on a shooting star:

Come back to me,
By the river where we laughed in glee,
Cradle me in your arms,
And take me from this harm.

In the water current her past replays,
The girl and boy promise to stay,
She treasures her life like no other,
With promises to reunite with her lover,
He completed her soul,
Made her heart whole,
And in the end,
They were more than friends,

By the river she hears him speak,
She turns around no longer bleak,
They embrace,
Where they first met – this was the place,
Their love deep and forever,
Vows to stay together,

By the river a man and lady sit on the bank,
By the river it was just me and Hank.
