I go from class to class
Facing the 500 students
The ipod in my pocket
The earbuds in my ears
I don't turn it on right away
For the hope the hall will be quiet
The bell sounds
Off I go
To sit in my next class
To listen to another teacher
To let more education bore me
I walk out the classroom door
I make my way into the crowd
Same as every other day
Hollering to all their friends
People are so happy
As I push my way
Through all the bodies
I turn on my music
I can barely hear it
Over the noise of the crowd
I turn it up
It drowns out the sound
Why can't every day be different
They seem always the same
Same old schedules
Same old teachers
Same rude classmates
Same strict rules
Today will be different
It's up to me to change
I walk past my door
Music still loud in my ears
My fingers tap to the beat
They play along with the drums
Rapidly tapping my thigh
I look at the clock
Second bell already rang
The hall has emptied
The students already in class
I'm late
I don't turn around
I turn the corner
Set my eyes on the change
Double doors at the end of the hall
To walk out and never come back
To make everyday different
Make my own schedule
Be my own person
I reach out my hand
The metal handle is cold
To the touch
I pause and stare
Through the window
Into the future
A cemetary to the left
Houses to the right
I push open the door
My slow walk
Becomes fast-paced
I approach the fence
No stopping now
I climb over and continue on
I reach the stone
I drop to my knees
My fingers run over the letters
Swing my backpack to the ground
Unzip it and remove the picture
I made a change dad
I made it for you
