The Forgotten Chess Piece

I think you should be the rook,
Jade will be the queen,
And I will play the piece,
Simply known as me.
Roger is the bishop,
Devout in his beliefs,
Sam is weak but proud,
And he will be the king.
Greg is easily controlled,
So he should be a pawn,
Emily is nothing much,
And doesn’t think chess fun.
Everyone is on the board,
Their places neatly assigned,
But I am the one piece forgotten,
I am the chess piece called ‘I’.
