Seasons between us
We met in the month of red paper hearts
The voice on the phone already making its mark
And so it began, those long walks, snowbound trails,
Shared talks of spotting young white deer's tails
As I learned of your spirit and kindness so true
My wall started to tumble, I opened for you.
'Till whispering secrets that Springtime I said
As we lay there together, a note handed in bed
In the soundless dark eve, through my note you then learned,
Your love was returned, my soul for you yearned.
To Raptor Rock then summer did arrive
We paddled Mann Lake, our love was alive.
We shared a warm night's sounds of Chicago we knew,
On the grass, a moment stood still and love grew.
Those days spent together and summer did leave,
Through cold winds your fireside kisses warmed me.
More trails together our birthdays began,
Of carriage rides, visits in ghostly-ghost land.
Fear not! You told me, as you held me that night,
There's nothing to fear, and I knew you were right.
The season again changed, it is said of this time,
The reason for love is met only in rhyme.
Heavenly hosts, and holy nights sing,
You gave me your boyish heart's song in a ring.
Our first Christmas together, I only know this -
Through seasons of life and your kiss on my lips,
Should you live to be 100 may God grant a wish or two
Together to sail down Colorado rivers of blue
Only then dear God, may you let me go too
This final wish please grant me, one day before you.
