A Mermaid

I live in the sea

I'm as pretty as can be

I swim at day

At night by the moonlight

I sit on the shore

For as long as I can

I see people all around

Couples in love with a kiss and hug

Children playing, babies crying

Sometimes I wish I could join in

The sea calls me home

Just where I belong

I turn to go and see a little boy

Playing with a sea shell

Putting it to his ear

So he can hear the sea

A smile comes upon his face

I have to go, I swim out

With longing to be

Just a person for one day

So I can know love

Have someone to hold me tight

Whisper in my ear

To say I love you

But the sea is my home

So I will never know

I'm a mermaid

So full of love

Full of life

My life is empty

Lonely as can be

A mermaid all alone
